Yet another reason why not to move to California!

Seriously, the government should stay out of our lives! I'd like to think the vast majority of us as parents knows how to spank our kids within reason. The spankings now will create well-rounded people later. Ask me, my wife, dad, grandma, etc...

As for the people who say kids should not have to fear the parents, those are the parents whose kids act unruly in the grocery stores and talk back to their parents and authority figures. I think kids SHOULD fear their parents (again, within reason), because we ALL know what happens when kids DON'T fear their parents...

I feel that the government needs to stay out of deciding about spanking children. The law and the government are corrupt and therefore should have no say in how to raise your children. Parents should start taking their little brats to the police station for the cops to deal with. I guarantee they change the law back. Thank you.

Spanking can have negative emotional, mental, and sexual psychological effects on children. If your boss pulled you into the office and spanked you for messing up a report, you'd have him jailed. Simple as that. What would you say about that? Now take your argument and apply that to children.

People tend to get carried away when spanking their child. If they hug their children afterwards or make up quickly for spanking the child, they can relate physical pain to emotional love and cause their child to wind up in unhealthy and abusive relationships later in life.

Children can even develope pleasure from being spanked and act out in order to receive their whoopin. Eventually they wind up in some rather strange sexual relationships of pain and violence. Spanking is also humiliating. Why would you ever humiliate someone you say you love? You wouldn't like it if your spouse humiliated you in front of your friends or family, now would you? No. That'd be an argument. People can go overboard in their punishment and not even realize they did. Its very easy to do.

There are too many people that hurt kids already. Why should parents be one of them? You wouldn't hit your spouse for making a mistake. Why? Because you love them. Because you have no right to. Why is that different for children? Because we're the ones who had sex to get them? Please, that's no excuse, we do that for the fun of it. Their age? So at what age are you old enough again to be whooped? When you reach 60 is it legal to spank you again? No. Children are not stupid and they're not property.

The line between discipline and abuse is slim. There are other ways to discipline that work better than spanking. And there are plenty of child psychology books to read that detail this stuff. In all studies, reward works better than punishment as a behavioral tool anyway.

Perhaps people should try rewarding and praising their children for the good things they do rather thank spanking them for the wrong ones and hoping that means they'll put 2&2 together to come to the right behavior on their own accord. Typically, those that spank for bad behavior do not reward for good behavior.

The problem with our children in this day and age is not that we don't spank them enough. Its that we allow the rest of the world to raise them and have no hand in it ourselves other than providing the money, housing, clothing and food. Children need more than just the basics and the tv to guide them into adulthood.

People come home from work and want to park themselves on the couch and let the kids sit on the floor in front of the tv. Anything as long as they shut up and be quiet so we can relax. Having children is a serious responsibility. One that a lot of parents don't see past being the provider. Or worse. Something to be taken advantage of. Its one thing if you need help raising your child. Its another thing when the only reason you want them is for what they bring with them. Children become foodstamps, hud housing, and welfare meal tickets. A weapon to use against each other, to hurt one another. A free money ticket in broken marriages. Not our joy or our future.

There are plenty of good children who's only crime is that they have bad parents. If the government has to pass a law that is of slight inconvenience to you in the methods in which you discipline your child, in order to save other children from overzealous spanking parents, you should be so grateful that someone is bothering.

I, personally, am of the belief that you should need a license obtained by psychological exam to have a child. Maybe then we wouldn't have so many people that hurt, neglect, or use them for personal gain. Its disgusting to watch it done. And if you don't believe it happens, then you're being naive.

Because you're not a bad parent, doesn't mean you're a good one.

it's about as dumb as some of these other cali. laws

Animals are banned from mating publicly within 1,500 feet of a tavern, school, or place of worship

It is a misdemeanor to shoot at any kind of game from a moving vehicle, unless the target is a whale.

No vehicle without a driver may exceed 60 miles per hour.

Bowling on the sidewalk is illegal.

it is NOT a law, it was only introduced as a bill in the state legislature... and it has died already.

IF it ever passes, I think it would be ridiculous and would make our society even worse... there are so many bad parents who don't spank now, and their kids are growing up with no sense of personal responsibility or fear of consequences for their actions...

For this Native, I think it Blows, and the government needs to stay out of our day-to-day lives.

There is a difference between discipline and abuse. I should know I was abused by a monster, and disciplined by a real parent.

Spare the rod and spoil the child. This world is going to turn into a bigger bucket of crap than it already is. I think people should train their children like they train their dogs. (Of course, I don't like children but that's beside the point) We're going to end up with people who feel entitled to everything and don't understand the consequences of their actions. I weep for the future.
