Because it takes rock bottom to make us see that things aren't working. If you continue on a self-destructive path for a long time, you're doing it because you're getting some kind of thrill from it... whether it be the danger, the attention, the freedom, etc... but when that thrill runs out, it makes you want to change something because, without the thrill of whatever you're doing wrong, there's just no point.

thats what humans do i dont know why we just have to hit rock bottom to realize that we fell all that way i think we have to realtize we messed up really bad to admit to ourselves we were wrong

some people are like that. me well i am and let me tell you it sucks! some people just have to learn on their own and they keep trying but then bam, rock bottom and then o ya you wake up! it's not bad its just how some people are

For some people, it takes a slap in the face, a divorce, or losing your job to wake up, and say...Hey, I have a problem.

same reason that your keys are in the last place you look... once you find them, you stop looking... so, when you finally do get it 'right' that point right before would be the measurable benchmark.
