I've heard it's called Trichotillamania, but I don't have the $$ to go to a therapist.. It's a one by one hair type of pulling, sometimes I don't even notice I'm doing it. I have bald patches and it has ruined my life now for 10 years... I have to stop now!!!!!!!!

Trichotillomania has proven to last quite long time in some of us. :( I've had it since I was 8 and am now 26. It's getting better, I know, since I used to have to wear a wig for it! I no longer have to since it grew back enough.

What has proven to help a lot of people is doing a workout, or simply taking a walk every day. Also find a hobby that will keep your hands busy, such as scrapbooking, knitting (a lot of people report it's good cuz it gives the same sensation of pulling the hair through the fingers), anything you believe would keep your hands busy. It's better therapy than any therapist. :) Also, I've heard of something that's supposedly been making quite a difference called the "John Kender Diet". You can look it up on the web. It's a change in your diet to help control your urges. For me, I lack discipline for ANY diet, LOL, so I didn't try it, but I hear it's been a great help for those who have.

Just a few suggestions. Hopefully that helps. Remember, it can't control your life if you don't let it. Once you come to terms with the trichotillomania, realize it's not your fault, and that it can one day go away, the stressload will be a lot lighter on your shoulders. There are plenty of us out there to support you and cheer you on as well. I'm always available through my email on my profile if someone wants to talk about it. Good luck to you!

At least you recognize that you have a problem. That is the first step.
You still need professional help.
What you should do until you can see a therapist is try to get a support system to help you deal with this.(Talk to friends and family they might help you cope with this)
Good Luck

I know someone who has a similar problem. She doesn't usually pull out her hair, but she often picks at it. She just tries to keep her hands busy with somethng else so she won't bother her hair.
