but at this past awards show - he was not even nominated

Matt Damon (with Ben Affleck) won an academy award in 1987 for Good Will Hunting - best original screenplay.
The Departed won numerous oscars this year, including best picture. Matt played the role of the crooked cop, Colin Sullivan.
It was generally thought that Matt should've been nominated for best supporting in that film, but the nomination went to Mark Wahlberg (he didn't win).
