It'll be pretty much the same routine as your first, just not as rushed. You check in, then once you get settled into your room they'll insert your IV. Typically within an hour, you'll be back in surgery to get your spinal. Once that kicks in they'll get to work. You'll probably be in recovery for about an hour....once you start to get the feeling back in your legs. It's smooth sailing after that to enjoy the time with your beautiful new baby. Congratulations and Good Luck!!

Well, it's been awhile. 22 years to be exact, however, I do remember pretty much how it was. I had my first son, 27 years ago and he was an emergency C. But the second one was planned. And it was a lot smoother than the first one.
Pretty much the same process as the first, but, they know what's going to happen, and so do you. You get into your room and they give you your IV. Then when you are ready, which is pretty fast, an hours or so, they take you in and you have the baby.
It all went pretty quick, alot less stress and worry, and my husband got to come in.
Which he didn't on the first.
So that was really nice. And then I went to recovery, and I think I was in there for maybe and hour or so and then to my room. Got to go home alot sooner too. 3 days. The first had complications because I was in labor for 26 hours before they figured out what the problem was. So I got sick and uterine infection on the emergency C. The second one was like clockwork.
Very easy, fast, and alot better.
Congrats!! Don't worry, you'll do great and it will be alot better than last time.
Good luck!! and God Bless you and your new baby!!!

Yes, I had my first child by emergency c-section, and I've had three children additionally since then. All by planned c-section. You would still pack a bag of items that you would need while in the hospital, loose-fit clothing because you don't want anything tight on your incision, (i.e. jeans, etc) and clothes for baby to come home in. I was very worried when I had my second c-section. But everything went as planned. I jokingly tell my friends that I would rather have a planned c-section because I know that I have time to shave my legs, and go to the salon the day before my baby is born. Relax, you'll be fine. Everything is coordinated so well, I would recommend asking if you can take pictures in the operating room. And touch your baby when they show him or her to you. Don't let them whisk the baby away without at least letting him or her hear your voice, and touch skin to skin. (i.e. stroking the baby's face, having him or her held close to your cheek, etc.) That way you can bond for a bit before heading off to recovery. You'll be in there for a little bit, and won't be able to hold the baby right away. Congrats and enjoy every minute of it.

My sister-in-law had a planned induction of labor that turned into a emergency c-section. The baby was pretty large so they decided that they would schedule the birth and if she went sooner then fine, but they wouldn't lket her go any later than the appointment date they sent. She said as far as the planned time of arrival and all it went very smoothly and it was so calm, with everyone expecting them and everything being planned out that it was alomost surreal.
The only downside was knowing the day she would go into labor/have the baby! The night before she paced and never slept at the excitement of knowing that they would get to meet their newborn the next day. She prefers it to be a surprise like it was with her first child.

Had unplanned c-section w/ #1, tried VBAC w/ #2, ended up having emergency c-section. So w/ #3 and #4, I scheduled my c-sections. You will probably go to the hospital early in the am. You will have bloodwork done, medical assessment done, and get prepped for the surgery.(shaving and catheter put in, also an IV) Things are very laid back since it is not an emergency. Then basically you are waiting until it is your turn to go to the OR. Once in the OR, you will get your spinal and then the fun begins. Good Luck.

My daughter was breech, so 3 weeks before my due date, my OB scheduled a cesarean for me in advance because we really didn't think she was going to turn at that point. I was told not to have any food or drink after midnight the night before my c-section. Well, my c-section wasn't scheduled until 2 pm, and I had gestational diabetes which meant I was thirsty all the time, so I had some water that morning. I had surgery before and was told that it was okay to take water with my medication. I guess I was having a dumb moment and didn't realize that only meant enough to swallow the meds. With past surgeries, the hospital had always called me in advance and went through everything, but for some reason this time they didn't. Anyway, I almost had to have my c-section postponed. Fortunately, I didn't. So, I would recommend trying to get your c-section scheduled as early in the day as possible because when they say no food or drink after midnight, they mean it. Other than that, I just brought my bag with me to the hospital. My husband kept it in the car until after recovery and I was put in my room. I just went to the maternity ward and they directed me where to go. I was taken in to the recovery room first where I changed, the nursed did routine tests and then I waited for my turn in the OR. I was also told to be at the hospital 2 hours before my scheduled c-section. Your doctor or one of his/her nurses should go over everthing with you prior to your c-section. If not, make sure to ask. Best wishes for a healthy delivery and baby.

Try for a VBAC :( Csections are more dangerous then trying for a VBAC!
I had a planned Csection with my first 2 (twins). It was planned because my son was breech, my daughter was head down though. They took me to triage when I got there that morning, made me get undressed, drink some yucky stomach "settling" stuff, and monitored the babies to make sure everyone was OK for anestesia. After a few minutes my doctor got there, they took me to the OR... They gave me a spinal , then put in the catheder (some hopsitals will do this, some wont!). I was glad I couldnt feel it :). After I was fully numb, they took out my babies :) YAY! lol. I was skinny again :)! They take you to recovery, and you rest a while before you see visitors..
With my next one, I wanted a VBAC, it was exactly 12 months, 2 weeks later. I went in because I didnt feel my son moving at 39 weeks 5 days. They took him emergency csection because his heart was dropping and he was in stress.... He ended up having the cord around his neck twice, and a true knot in his cord. So no more trying for a VBAC for me :(
I really wish I could have a natural birth. I am against planned csections because they pose alot of risks to the baby. My baby spent a week in the NICU because he couldnt breathe due to all the junk in his nasel passage, and belly and lungs. THey pumped ALOT. This is something natural birth gets rid of on its own. Good luck!

The same thing happen to me I had a son 3 years a go then they planned a c-sec with my girl that i had 9 months ago...they give you a I.V you can't eat anything with 24 hours of the surgery of course. untill after then you in the recovery room after the delivery nothing to worry about... That why there are doctor there I know you don't worry and I did but if this wasn't the case that we were worry they will have to put us in mental hops. I was in the hopstial with my secound child for a whold 30 days before becuase the fluid was leaking and they couldn't find out why. but in your case you only have 16 days left to be a momy to a new baby it be fine good luck with your little one

THIS IS VERY INTERESTING TO ME...MY FIRST WAS A C-SECTION FOR FAILURE TO PROGRESS AFTER LABORING FOR 24 HOURS AND GETTING TO 5CM. HAD TO BE INDUCED TO GET THAT FAR... AND MY SECOND ONE IS PLANNED FOR APRIL 16. MAYBE SOME OF YOU LADIES CAN COMMENT ON THE PAIN OF LABORING THEN HAVING A C-SECTION COMPARED TO JUST HAVING YOUR C-SECTION PLANNED? I WAS VERY VERY SORE WITH THE FIRST ONE...TOOK WELL OVER A MONTH TO RECOVER...IS THE PAIN LEVEL ANY DIFFERENT I WONDER?

My mom did with my little sister. I was the emergency c-section, so they planned my sister. My mom said it went smooth and it was wonderful.
