Im looking for a safe and effective all-purpose cleaner that I can use around the kitchen and in the bathroom that is bactericidal without being harmful to my health. I have chemical sensitivities. Many people tell me to use vinegar since it is safe. But does vinegar really kill germs? Is it bactericidal? Just because something is acidic(like vinegar or a lemon) does it mean it kills germs?
I tryed bleach and it does live up to its claims. I diluted a tablespoon of bleach mixed with 32 ounces of water. However, bleach seems to irritate my lungs somewhat. What about ammonia is that effective? Hydrogen peroxide? Im looking for a product based on facts that works and is safe.

Which all purpose cleaners work the best?

Right now I am using hydrogen peroxide as an all-purpose cleaner. You simply mix it 50/50 with water in a spray bottle and voila! I use it on my kitchen counters, and all over the bathroom. I also have a book that my mom got me for Christmas called "Clean House, Clean Planet" by Karen Logan. It is chock full of recipes for natural, safe household cleaners (she uses things like vinegar, lemons, baking soda, etc). I have recently been using a vinegar/water mixture for cleaning my floors with some peppermint essential oil to make it smell nice. It works wonderfully!! And it leaves my home smelling clean and fresh...no chemical smells! I love it!

Vinegar and peroxide are excellent and there are 2 recomendations for natural products. Simple green will be too toxic for you. I tried it and could not have it in the house. I had a similar problem. Ammonia will be too powerful unless you cover your mouth and only put a teaspoon in a gallon of water.

OMG, listen to the Vinegar people. it works. If you are still paranoid, then use fresh squeezed grapefruit juice with the vinegar. White Grapefruit juice is an extremely powerful and natural anti-bacterial.
