look at odens numbers this year...they may not be outworldy, but you have to remember that he has done all of this while shooting predominantly with his left hand (he is right handed)...he would obviously be averaging many more points/boards a game if he had full use of them both...and whats even more incredible is that he shoots a high percentage with his nondominant hand...he will be a star in the NBA shortly after he is drafted and is 100% healthy.

Taking Oden over Durant is not a huge mistake. It really depends on the team that has the number 1 pick. Durant is a 6'10" small forward that reminds me very much of Kevin Garnett minus the strength and Greg Oden is a true center that is said to be the next Patrick Ewing. How often do teams have the opportunity to draft a true legitimate center that has played most of this season using is opposite hand? There are other players similar to Durant such as Thaddeus Young at Georgia Tech, Brendan Wright at North Carolina, and Julian Wright at Kansas. There is no other player similar to Oden.

That choice may not have to be made. Durant is expected back next year where as Oden WILL be the #1 overall pick. I'd rather have Durant for the athleticism. I don't think Oden has any more potential then Durant. Oden had the hype going into the year so people expect more out of him.

It wil depend on what the team drafting first needs like the guy above me said. Oden is a super defensive player who will put up monster rebounding and block numbers. Durant is the complete all-around offensive player, like those superstars you mentioned. It would be a tossup if I had the first pick, but I'd tend to agree with you with the season Durant's been having. Memphis has the inside track to the first pick, and a frontline of Gasol, Mike Miller, and Durant would be imposing. This reminds me of when Orlando had this dilemma, with Okafor and D. Howard. They went with the star power potential of Howard over the defensive force of Okafor, who as we all know fell to the bobcats. But it worked out well for both teams.

I say that they could bypass with Greg Oden because of the fact they Celtics have not had an iside presence because of the fact the likes of Tony Batie (does he even count style?). An interior prescence might provide the Celtics yet another measurement. good now, Paul Pierce is money from exterior and from mid-selection. in the event that they have been given an interior device like Oden, who's surely extensive, Pierce might learn how to grant the ball interior extra. Oden might additionally provide the Celtics so lots extra blocks and extra useful protection than they have good now. Secondly, i don't think of that they could take Durant even however he's multidimensional because of the fact I dont have faith that Durant may well be sufficiently huge or solid adequate to compete with the "Shaqs" of the NBA. He does not be waiting to artwork the ball interior as uncomplicated as he does now. With this, his interest might likely be limited to an exterior selection shooter, and clearly, this might conflict with the physique of strategies of Pierce, with the two desiring the ball consistently to pop threes.

Oden is gonna be the next Shaq. There's not many true 7 footers in the NBA with his inside skill. Don't get me wrong, Durant is a big time scorer as well, but picking one over the other isn't a mistake. Either one is going to be a great pick.

D. Mutombo or K. Garnett? B. Wallace or L. James? The question seems to be - Do you want a defensive center or a play-making forward? The stars that shine brightest in the NBA happen to be play-makers. Oden will never be one of those. Kevin Durant has a long career ahead of him as one. Play-makers bring the bucks to the franchise. Pick Durant!!!

Greg Oden is your postup center like Shaq. While Durant is more like Amare Stoudmaire, who is atheltic, can choot, run the pick n roll, and can dominant on the post. depending on the team's style of playing. If your team is quick and fast, Go for Durant. if your team is physical, aggressive, and play at a slow pace, Oden is the man. for me. Both guys amaze how they play but I go for Oden over Durant. Oden will be the next post up center

i would say it has to do with team needs as well. i do think durant will be a bigger star in the league, but i want to comment on something one of the answers says.
you compared durant to amare stoudamire??????????? can amare stoudamire create offense on every possesion all by himself? can he hit a 35-40 foot shot 40% of the time? this was a HORRIBLE comparison as stoudamire is good, but not the same type of player as durant. i think the best comparison is mcgrady and garnett put together. durant could play 4 positions and dominate at any of them! this guy can score from anywhere on the court, play inside/outside defense. he is unreal. garnett and stoudamire dont have near the range that durant has. he will probably play sf, but is also a great sg.....but he is 6'9"!!!!!!!

I agree. As the game speeds up, pure centers are in less demand than in the past. Durant would be the best bet, because not only can he post up on smaller defenders, he can shoot from anywhere on the floor. Oden will be a great player in the NBA, however, Durant will be better...
