how many of you think that if we were blindfolded during the show and could only judge on singing alone, would we change our minds on who we pick? we would never see looks or stage performance.
i think a lot of us have our favs, and are also appealed to their look and not just voice.
as an example, how many that would switch from say, chris richardson to chris sligh if you never got to see what they looked like?

I love it when the judges contradict themselves. One week they'll stress that it's a "singing competition" and then the next week they talk about who looks the best. Or they'll tell someone that they miss the way they performed in the audition one week and then tell everyone to be true to themselves. It makes no sense whatsoever, but that's part of the fun of it.

I think the judges did the major skimming beforehand because the top 20 guys and girls all looked pretty nice so it really doesn't matter at this point by the time we get our chance to vote. I'm pulling for Chris Richardson. He's got a great attitude and an awesome singing voice no matter the song.

Interesting question, but I have to reject your premise. Even if it is a singing competition, the reality is that we want a whole package. I mean, come on, the MTV revolution is now 20 years old!
You do have to have a certain level of singing talent to make it as a singer, but good looks, charm, charisma, that special "It" factor that makes someone connect with the audience is the difference between being a singer and being a star.

Its true dat it is a singing competition, but c'mon we all humans we look at more than just vocals. As a matter of fact they r all good(they made it this far) even though some may be better than others. But in reality we look at personality, looks, etc. As one of you stated their identity should be hidden until the top ten, inorder for us, the voting public to just concentrate on their voices. Maybe they should consider it next season.
Chris R & Blake u go guys!

Hey, I like them both (chris's). I do think that an American Idol has to have an 'image', due to America's own vanity.
I personally, dont care what they look like.
Also, when Fantasia won, people were upset that she was a single mom and thought that was a bad example for teens...okay!? If my daughter went through the struggles I did as a single mom and was able to make her dreams a reality, I would be happy!

I might have to try that.... B/c sometimes I think I vote for Chris R. b/c I like the way he looks. This could be a challenge???
I like Chris S. voice and I think I would vote for him regardless of how he looks.
You know, come to think of it.....I've noticed how Simon often looks down or closes his eyes to get the "Radio" feel of the person singing.

I agree; I voted for Kris understanding that Adam replace into the extra suited vocalist and has a occupation merely before him in spite of the end result. I enjoyed Kris' music from early on and did no longer have confidence he might win yet needed him to so as that he might benefit self belief and function the leap start up that triumphing AI might grant him. i do no longer have confidence Adam mandatory the leap start up. triumphing isn't consistently the suited factor for the suited performer, as then you definitely could desire to furnish AI with a ingredient of your earnings over the subsequent 12 months and are certain with the help of a freelance dictating what and once you may sing, leaving you constrained in inventive freedom. Adam easily did no longer choose that, he's the main inventive we've had on the prepare and desires to have the flexibility to be untethered. Kris replace into with the help of a procedures the extra suited determination for my vote and could extra effective than in all probability be the artist who's music i elect to purchase.

A minor point. American Idol is not just a singing competition - it is a search for a pop star - image and presentation is a big part of that package.
My vote goes to Jared Cotter - steamy, sexy, great singer - the total package! Let's Get It On!

I have to agree with you. However, I do believe Chris Sligh is a very good singer and I must admit he is one of my favorites. I do get a lit perturbed when Simon critiques their appearance, clothing choice as THIS IS A SINGING COMPETITION. Isn't it?
