Hair loss tends to be so gradual that you never really notice an overall change in it. A few years you think you have hair, the next few you think you might be balding but are in denial, a couple more you still think you look the same as you always id combing-over 3 tiny hairs on your scalp. Then you open a picture album, look in the mirror and have a long hard cry.

As for "all of the sudden" hair loss... no that is not normal. I know some antidepressant medications can cause it, one girl I dated was bipolar and had to take these pills... hair started falling out in clumps. (which really didn't help her depression much) So you might want to check any medications that you're taking. Hair loss at such a rapid rate also occurs in cases of poisoning, severe illness or response to radiation.

Also be sure to distinguish between hair loss and shedding. I have tons of really long hair so I shed like 8 golf-ball sized furballs a day and still have the same hairline. This is normal, while somebody who starts developing patches of baldness or severe recessions around their temples are actually balding. If it's mainly at the temples, brow line, and the edges of the scalp where the natural hair ends, then it's a fairly normal balding process. If instead there are random patches of baldness and it doesn't look very balanced, then it's likely a chemical or radioactive reaction.

If you tie your hair back constantly, this can cause premature hair loss and damage too. Make sure you get those scuncci (sp?) brand ones that are melted together instead of having those little metal clasps... those things are murder on your hair and make it break off all uneven. Spend extra time getting rid of loose hairs when you brush so they don't bramble up with strong hairs to be pulled out later. Also try changing to more generic conditioners and shampoos and note if there are any changes, as well as limiting the time you keep any coloring agents in your hair. Keeping dye soaking in your hair for too long often is just the kind of chemical reaction that makes your scalp jetisson your hair.

Hi Anna,
There are times when hair does fall out. Generally it is in times of stress that our B-Vitamin reserves are depleted. It certainly does not show in the photo if that is you. That hair is beautiful! If you are under stress for some reason, take extra vitamin B-Complex. It is available at any health food store relatively inexpensively. Have a great day.

Hmmm could be a couple of things. If you are not eating properly or maybe your body is stressed out. After I had 2 of my surgeries my body was stressed and trying to recover and that made my hair fall out a little bit, like when I washed it. If it continues contact your doctor, it could be something that needs to be addressed. Good luck.

If you are losing hair and just noticing it in places like your hairbrush, the area where you style it, or in the bathtub where you wash it, it may seem like a lot but trust me its totally normal. The only way you have to be concerned is it its coming out in CLUMPS, or leaving bald spots. Then there is a problem.

Hair loss is sometimes caused by stress. Also, sometimes, hair will just seem like it's falling out but really it's just shedding it's winter "coat." That's what my hairdresser told me when I thought I was going bald. Talk with your doctor and he/she can provide better answers than you'll find here.

all people loose alot of hair every day, but if your loosing more then normal then you need to watch your diet and your health. are you taking vitamins and eating healthy? have you been sick lately or is anything different with your health? if you notice these things or think there is a problem then you can talk to a doctor or change your eating habits. make sure you are eating veggies and drinking alot of water too.

it is if you just had a baby
got a permanent (perm)
are having chemo
are not eating properly or are dieting
are taking certain medications that cause hair to fall out
or you are gentically predisposed to this meaning your mother or close relative has this problem too

Id take a look at your diet and see if you are missing a lot of one or two food groups

Alopecia - sudden hair loss - is indicative of many health problems. I'd see a doctor and find out what's going on.
