Set a good example, speak to him instead of lecturing him. Discuss things showing him how to look at things from the other side, asking things like how do you think that person felt etc. You can do this in a non direct way at first by asking say about a movie you saw, a tv show the two of you watched, or the news. Lead by example. You also need to keep in mind some of this is the age, the hormones and will change in time.

If he has been spoiled and made to feel as if the world DOES revolve around him for the past 14 years, it is hard to 'undo' that. Seems like that is happening more and more and we parents don't realize it until it's too late...... take him down a couple notches. Make him accountable for his actions.... expose him to other ways of life, take him to a homeless shelter to volunteer. Don't allow him to get away with selfish behavior and make consequences for these types of actions. Good luck - 14 year olds are a handfull.

Guess what? You are the parent of a regular teenager. Just keep telling him that others are important too. But he's at the age where this is very common.

hes 14 what the hell do you expect him to be like? all of us are like that, including me. its because we ARE the greatest and most awesome people in existence(sarcasm). you seem to expect him to act like an adult, but he is not even close to that age. I wonder, did you try to teach him einsteins theory of relativity at age 3? dont try to rush him through life, everybody has to grow up on their own and learn life's lessons first-hand
