Well, it just depends on a few things. If you have been overweight since puberty, than your body is used to this, and more than likley, you ovulate and are able to get pregnant at the weight you are. If you have recently become heavy, and you weren't considered overweight at puberty, than your body will probably react to the weight gain by not ovulating, because it recognizes that you are not going to be healthy enough to support a pregnancy at the higher weight. I have been told by my doctor that if I loose weight, I should become pregnant. I lost 17 pounds and concived. I lost this pregnancy, and gained back the weight plus some, and we have been trying for almost 2 years, with no luck, even on fertility meds. I wasn't overweight at puberty. I hope this helps you, and if you need support, IM me! I need some support right now too!

If you are overweight or obese then the loss of even 1kg (couple of pounds) can drastically increase your chances of conceiving. It seems to be the "loss" of the weight rather then the actual value. It tends to even out your hormones a bit.

As others have mentioned it will also help you through the pregnancy, decreasing your risk of many conditions (eg diabetes- which can lead to a large baby- ouch). It will also decrease you risk in labour if you need to have a caesarean section..

You need to loose this weight by eating healthy and exercising. If you lose it too fast (more than 1kg (couple of pounds) per week it will actually decrease your chance of getting pregnant as you may stop ovulating.

Note: you can still get pregnant if you are overweight- it just may take a little longer.

Good Luck...

It depends on how much you weigh....if you are underweight then no gaining a few pounds will help...if you are at your ideal weight then no....but if you are extremely overweight then yes losing a little bit can definately help. The lady that used to watch my girls was overweight and wanted to try for another child and her doctor told her to lose about 100 pounds as weight can hinder your fertility.(she is probably around 250-300 pounds)
