the biggest comeback you can hit him with is to kick him to the curb and make new friends. nothings hits stronger to a person who enjoys putting others down than to be ignore and dismissed.

a good friend doesnt use you as their stepping stone to feel better or whatever reason he puts you down. you need to disassociate from that "friend" before that "friend" says or does something too far.....

Find a good phrase, and say the same thing each time he does it. Say it in a bored, disinterested sort of way--then change the subject. Mine is "Thanks, now I feel a lot better."
