Ive been a hairstylist for 6 years, and i can tell you that there is no proof that hair color will hurt the baby, the reason people aren't supposed to color their hair while pregnant is because your hormones are so out of wack that it can affect the results of the hair color. (such as brassiness, wrong color...) this is also true with perms. Hormones can cause them to not take or take too tight. It is always advised to get your doctors opinion on the matter, though they are pretty divided on the issue. I would say go for it, just use something with low ammonia if your worried, or go to a salon and ask for semi permanent or demi permanent. Should cover those highlights right up with no risk to your baby!!! Best of luck!

I am also 4 months pregnant and I just had a few high lights put in and my stylist said it's up to the mother. In the last 5 years companies have changed their coloring so it isn't as harmful. She said to use non-permanent and try to keep the color off your scalp(yeah right lol) I think if I were to color my hair I would feel better having her do it.

I colored my hair at home when I was 5 months pregnant and the fumes were horrible.... I had to go stand outside to let it set. Last weekend (at 31 weeks) I went to a salon to get highlights and my hairdresser assured me that it was totally safe. He did such a good job and the fumes did not effect me at all. My girl friend uses Natural Instincts non-permanent color, which is much less harsh, and it does good on her hair (which is VERY dark) but it fades so fast you'll have to do it again soon.

I know everyone is telling you it's ok, & it probably is. I asked my doctor at my last visit. She said while there are no tests proving it's not safe, there are none proving it's safe. The reason is that what woman would want to knowing volunteer for those tests while pregnant.
She said if I REALLY wanted to dye my hair to get the natural stuff, wait as long as possible, & only do it once.
I know a lot of people who've done it & everything is fine. But for me, Hair is hair, I can live w/ big old roots as long as I know I'm doing everything to keep my baby safe.

I've gotten my hair colored 2 times in my pregnancy, but I went to a salon to get it done, they knew I was pregnant. As long as you don't use amonia color, and don't inhale the fumes, you should be fine :) Congrats and good luck

I colored my hair with all 4 kids and there was never a problem......just do it in a well ventilated area. I know some people say the chemicals, yada, yada, yada....I swear, if you follow all the wacky things they say is now bad for you that used to be good for you we would all have to live in a plastic bubble. I'm not trying to be flip about safety during pregnancy I just think it gets taken a bit too far.

I dyed my hair w/ both pregnancies. No problems .... The best bet is to choose a dye with no ammonia, and fumes. Make sure to have a fan in front of you so you dont sniff any fumes either.
