Before I saw the rest of the question, the semi colon was the first thing that came to mind when you asked what else would be next. Either that or this thingy: - (whatever its called)

The next one will be the " cause if one apostrophe was bad enough...two together forming a punctuation mark are too indecent to be seen by the public.
