I have just started uni at sheffield and want to buy a house here. Where are the best areas to live? I cant afford crookes, etc and am looking a bit further out - to somewhere close to the tram lines, eg, hillsborough, attercliffe, arbourthorne, etc. Any advice would be much appreciated, thanks

Hi, I have known Sheffield all my life and it is a fab city. I would recommend an area north of the city centre like Hillsbrough or near the Middlewood tram terminus. You might have a little walk up hill but it's worth the effort. Avoid Attercliffe or Arbourthorne you may find them a little rough if you have been used to quite a sedate place previously. Good luck at uni and I hope you enjoy our city in a golden frame.

Walkley's too up in the hills. You've got the buses that go up there, but if you're in the centre at weekends the buses stop at about 11.30pm. Hillsboroughs good, but as far as the Wednesday ground as poss. Say no to Arbourthorne. It's scumville with more rottweiler owners (and rottweilers) you can shake a stick at. Use to live there 10years ago whilst building new houses and flats in Norfolk Park. Another mad district.
