Yes-they have done a terrible job. Last year they had a fire in their eyes right from the start of the season-everyone knew they were going to be there. This year they kind of just came out and hoped they were still that good-they are not. Add to that the fact every team wants to be the defending champs. Although they lost some character players and I don't think they will do much damage if they make the playoffs this year, they do have a good core of players who can right the ship and be dominant again. A great off season pick up would help-a leader.

Actually it is a rare thing that teams win back to back. Take for example Tampa or the AVS. Carolina did a good job last year with their winning season ... one of the biggest needs for them has been some consistent D and goaltending. Just because Cam Ward was hot last year doesn't necessarily mean he will again. With Eric Cole I believe injuried and such and the players they no longer have on the team due to FREE Agency etc.

Not every team makes the playoffs. It looks like the Canes will but with the race being close every game now is a MUST!

It could be worse ... they could be the Blues, Flyers, or Blackhawks who don't even have a chance at all making the playoffs.

Its hard. after you win the cup you put a bounty on your head. people play you hard every night because they want "to beat the defending stanley cup champs". they also lost alot of players last year, including their starting goalie (although he wasnt during the playoffs)

They made a couple trades in the last week, but so did everyone else around them. It should be a very entertaining playoffs this year.

What do you expect; when you rent players for a cup run and get hot at the right time? That is no formula for success the next season.

Be happy with one Cup, a lot of good teams have been trying for years only to fall short of the glory.

Well, at least we're going to get in. Edmonton isnt' even going to be in the playoffs this year....

We're rebuilding right now, a lot of players left after last year for higher pay on other teams.

they really haven't done to good this year, they are right on the play off cusp.they have a lot of good players but they also lost some of the key players that took them to the cup.

Well considering I still don't know how they ever won it to begin with, I am not surprised.
