why people do it when they know it is bad for you? And plus it smells. And polluted yards with many ciggy butts.
Why this question a violation?

To me, this question is not a violation. However, some of the members of the community who have that 4th grade hall monitor mentality might report you for chatting because this is a question that seeks opinions versus actual facts. It is not an easy question to answer.
I am a non smoker and I agree with you about smoking being bad for you and smelling. I also do not like seeing cigarette butts strewn all over everything.
The reasons people give for smoking are varied. I am sure everyone knows it is bad for you. Some people take the attitude of "Well, we all die anyway so what if I smoke?". Do you want to die young and in pain or get old and go peacefully. Some say it relaxes them (nicotine I believe is a depressant) and keeps them from snacking and gaining weight.
Last,but not least, many smokers started at a young age and as the years pass, it gets harder and harder to quit. It took the early stages of lung cancer to get my father in law to quit. He is 69 years old and smoked since he was 16. Fortunately, they caught it early but they removed half of one lung to get it. My father had emphysema from smoking for years.
Hopefully, this question won't be seen as a violation and will get lots of answers. You might just inspire somebody to quit smoking today!

Boys: to emulate someone older who smokes.
Girls: either to emulate someone older who smokes, or to hang around with a boy who smokes.
Notice how I said "boys" and "girls" and not "men" and "women." The tobacco industry would have us believe that the decision to smoke is a well-reasoned decision made by an intelligent mature adult. The reality is that overwhelmingly it's an ignorant or stupid decision made by a teenager, or a stupid decision made by an addicted adult.

BECAUSE PEOPLE ARE VERY VERY STUPID. I USED TO SMOKE. IT IS SORT OF A OOO I GOT TO BE COOL. BUT TRUST ME NOT COOL. HOW IS SOMETHING THAT IS SLOWLY KILLING YOU, TAKING YOUR LIFE!!!!!! COOL??????????
