Family photos and portraits are good things to take, especially in frames that you can hang on the wall. Ornaments are better off on shelves on the wall. A bedspread or blanket, bedside lamp and most homes should accept a chair. A radio and/or small tv. Make sure clothes are named in indelible ink, another good thing to take is a small electric fan. Keep jewellery to a minimum and in a box.

We just had to put our Mother in a home about 2 weeks ago. What we have done is to put a few items in her room. Decorations that can't break bad. She loved music boxes, so we choose the ones that are just alittle more sturdy. She aslo has her own blankets and bedspreads. I'v noticed some people have a nice rocker/recliner in their room also. Not too long at this yet so that's really all I know so far. Hope this helps.

Suggestions above are good ones. Family photos, maybe some silk flowers......... anything cheery that you can bring from previous home. Nursing homes are such sad places. You might want to check with the nursing home before bringing things, they may have restrictions.

Personal, favorite items are great. My mother-in-law missed her birds so we put up feeders outside her window. It was okay with the nursing home as long as we took care of them. She loved it. Occasionally we would bring our well behaved dog when we visited...also had that ok'd too. EVERYBODY loved that.
