Some stores can check up on purchases even if you don't have a receipt. A copy certainly helps. But, the question I would ask is, how is it that you can have a copy of the receipt and not the receipt itself? Did you use it for a rebate or refund? Don't you file your receipts?

Most stores have a time limit on returns and unless it is an item that doesn't work through no fault of your own, they are unlikely to accept the return. If you purchased it through a credit card, then the credit card company would have a receipt, though not detailed.

Generally, the IRS and and companies will accept copies of receipts as proof of expenditures.

That's up to the store, but why bother. If you are orgainzed enough to copy your reciepts, you should be able to keep them where you can find them. Why would you want to create extra paper to store in your house?

Also, the store might get suspicious. If I were at the CS counter and you did that, I'd start asking you questions and stalling a little bit. If you complain too loud about it, I'll know you are ripping off the store, so I'd get my manager and let him make the call.

If you made the purchase with a credit card that matches up with the copy of the recipt then I'd say you have fairly solid evidence.

yes. I actually delt with this at Zales. There is a transaction # on the recipt that they will be able to match in their computer. This is actually a good idea for big purchases b/c eventually on a regular recipt the ink wears off:)

I think it should be ok but I don't think the stores would except it. why would you have a copy and not the original? this don't make since to me.
