I'm taking Anatomy and Physiology 2 and my class is 90% women. My teacher, however, makes sexist comments all the time about how women aren't strong enough and how they only belong in the kitchen. I am truely bothered by this and it hurts me to see that such hate is present. I am afraid to tell the dean b/c he is also a man..and a prick and I mean a huge one. What should I do?

I think he's trying to be funny, but he is not at all. And he only jokes about women, not men. In fact he involves the men in his jokes by adding..right guys? at the end of the joke...pathetic

And dropping the class isn't going to happen....i'm half way throught the semester and I'm about to get into nursing school, so yeah...something needs to be done.

Let it also be known that I do not hate men and that I want everyone to be equal. I do not condone women saying hateful things about men either.

Another thing, If you dont have anything useful to say, dont say it. Anyone who doesn't think this is a big deal, is clearly ignorant. Its not complaining, this is sexism..and what tanks fails to realize is, that little things like women complain over everything is sexism too. Maybe he should open his mind a little instead of being extremely ignorant.

Well, some people dont think this is a big deal and usually I let things go, but this is a serious issue. A VERY SERIOUS ISSUE. Its as serious as racism in fact. And to ignore it would be unwise, so excuse me for standing up for myself.

Also, one more thing, I did use ignorant in the right context. Ignorant in this context would be about men who are uneducated about the rights of women, as people usually. Also, I never said men don't receive the same treatment at their jobs and I never said it was right. I just think that this issue of sexism needs to put to bed. So, if you want to say something rude or mean spirited, dont say it at all, because you are absolutely ignorant to the rights of people. You know who you are!

You can do what I did when I found out that my Political Science instructor was anti-Semitic. He would openly accuse Jews for all world troubles. He had one mistake he allowed for his lessons to be recorded. I recorded all of his lessons and every lesson had at least one comment about the Jews. I played the tapes to the dean. The dean heard the tapes conducted a board hearing and fired the instructor. The reason to why I know this is because the next semester he was no longer teaching at my university. I also threatened to sue the university if he was aloud to preach hate, which is against the law for public universities to do that.
So, tape record your teacher. Sexist remarks are illegal in public colleges or in any college. Check out the rules for your university if that is not allowed tape record him. If he does not allow for his lectures to be tape recorded, then approach him and ask him for his permission tell him that you cannot write as fast as he talks and by tape recording him you it would help you to gain a better understanding of the subject for you be able to grasp the ideas that are missed.

Welocome to the real world. I have a female boss who always makes sexist comments about men, and my job is 90% male. She always makes comments on male ego, (assuming we all have big ego's) and how it gets in the way of production. And then she misjudges everyone intentions by assuming it's polluted with ego when ever we have questions or struggle with assignments. She never sees things as it is, she always judges men and what we do on her biased opinions and feelings rather than being logical and professional. Whats ironic is that SHE has the BIGGEST EGO in the studio which causes her to be a bully. Even some women left the studio because of her.

The only thing you can really do is ignore the fool and do your job or assignment. Your a woman so you might have more power in getting him to stop his remarks than I do since I'm a guy and no one really listens to men who have problems anymore.

Elaine H -Oh, and I hope I didn't come across as implying that you condone women being sexist to men. I just sympathize because I'm going through the same thing. I was actually just takling to someone about it the other day.

My teacher did the same but instead made sexists comments on men. GET OVER IT!!! Stop complaining it's not that big a deal. Well I guess it's true women always complain!

Obviously my last comment was done on purpose. I'm not ignorant but why are you trying to make a big deal out of something that isn't? My teacher made sexists comments all the time. Did I go on Y! Answers asking how to ask my teacher to shut up? No. I just ignored it and that's what you should do too if you were wise. In life you can't be bothered with everyone that says something you don't like. Maybe some of the things he says are true. In this case it's not sexism, or maybe he is just kidding but he isn't very skilled at making funny jokes.

I would talk to the department head about it - HIS boss. You will remain anonymous so don't worry about that. Perhaps there are others similarly offended: if you can find others sharing your observation then complain as a group. You will have more impact this way - there is' strength in numbers', as they say. The university doesn't want their reputation tarnished so I think the offending prof will be called in for a little "discussion' by his superior. Go for it.

EDIT; SMIALLY
Where is my source for what? My 'source' would be my familiariity with 'the system' first-hand. I actually bothered to get two university degrees. I think I would be correct in concluding that you are lacking this 'inside knowledge'. I assume that this is why you TOTALLY avoided answering the question in the first place!

Go to the local news! Make it huge! It is a huge issue all over the world and too many people are afraid to do anything about it. Your local news crew can send someone in under cover and really make a thing of it and then I don't think he will continue with sexist comments!

Is he trying to be funny, or just insult people? There is the odd sexist joke in my Engineering lectures, but it rags on both sexes. (Like the one about strong and weak atomic forces being compared to a poorly lit club. Physically attraction vs. intoxication.)

Get a group of students together and go to the chair of whatever department he belongs to. If he is the chair of the department, go to the dean of students to complain.

Ignorant of what? Female teachers do the same to men but it's far more accepted. If I disagree with you and say that your "problem" is not a big deal, how does that make me ignorant?

Dictionary Definition:

Ignorant: Lacking in knowledge or training; unlearned: an ignorant man.

(Notice how it uses "man?" OH GOD! Sexism, right?)

I don't think saying your problem is typical of what most men have to deal with or that your problem is trivial is ignorant by any stretch of the imagination.

Feel free to disagree; you can, because we live in the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, created by our FOREFATHERS.

If he's a tenured professor there's very little you can do. As long as he continues getting published his job is extremely secure.
