You violated rule one of money, never lend it to family unless you are OK with not getting it back. In this case you gave your credit which is almost the same thing.

Since your brother had no worries about screwing you for the money then you should worry about screwing him back. Small claims court will cost you about $50 to file. If you win then you can add that money and ask for interest to be paid on the balance until the money is paid in full.
as long as you can prove that you didn't live there and they did, you should be able to get something out of it.

You can take her to small claims court to try to get the money, but in the mean time you are stuck for the bills cause they are in your name. It is unfortunate when we try to help someone and they put the screws to you like this but I have heard of this a lot. The first thing you should do right now is contact the utility companies and shut off the gas and electric and explain to them what has happened and see if they will work something out with you in the meantime. Then file a claim in the courthouse to go after her for the money.
Good Luck.

Yes by all means you are ble to sue, i would gather all documents you can possibly muster and also try and get everything from the billing company the date your started all the way until now ask for a complete print out they will be more than happy to give you one..then go to your local court house and talk to the clerk they will give you the right papers to fill out, if you feel uncomfortable doing them yourself you can pay a para legal a minimal fee to do so.. good luck and yes "they will have reimburse you the full amount but for better results sue both your brother & girlfriend..

Yes, you can sue her in small claims and do not need an attorney. Just take all the paperwork that you have with you to court. Also call or go to the gas and electric companies immediately and tell them to turn off the utils and get them out of your name. That would be first on my list...

you can sue her for the money but the account was in your name you are responsible to see that that account was paid. you can win the money from her and snow it to the utility companys.. but i don't think that they will change there minds (little minds, tiny minds haha) good luck kiddo

Not unless you have a signed agreement from them stating that they were responsible for paying the bill.
