If we are talking as a franchise, and not just this season
PG Chris Paul
SG Tracy McGrady
SF LeBron James
PF Dirk Nowitzki
C Yao Ming
Paul is a stud ever since he was at Wake. He won rookie of the year last season, and led the hornets to a very impressive season.
McGrady when he is healthy is one of the best players in the NBA. Last season, he scored like 10 points in the last few seconds of a game to win at the buzzer. He is leading the Rockets right now to a good run in the playoffs.
James is the best young player in the NBA. He can do it all. He can dish it out, he canrebound, he can shoot, and play defense. He is no doubt the future of the NBA.
Nowitzki is geting better every season. He can actually play defensive now, and has the best mid-range jumper in the league.
Ming, when healthy, is a no doubt guaranteed for 20 and 10. Despite his looks, he is one of the toughest players in the league. He is the future of the big man in the NBA.

i will answer this question with the perspective of " a five player line-up that would dominate any other 5 player line-up in the game"
PG: JKidd, because of his NBA finals experience. his ability to throw lobs, his court-vision and defensive prowess.
SG: Kobe Bryant, because if the fast tempo high powered alley oop offense isn't working, he is a guy who can easily create his own shot against almost any defender in the game
SF: Tayshaun Prince, one of the only defenders who can shut down Kobe on any given play, but not if he's on my team. Every team needs a defensive master, Tayshaun is a guy who will not let up on defense until someone makes a lucky shot or the other team turns the ball over. Can also sky very high for alley-oops and finish with either hand.
PF: Kevin Garnett, his intensity would greatly impact the play of my line-up. Also counting the fact the he is a 99 overall on every basketball video game helps as well. KG is a perfect pick for any line-up.
C: The only possible center that could go with this line-up, is my man Amare Stoudemire. Excellent at controlling and finishing alley-oops. Has a wide repertoire of post moves, quick jumper, excellent shot-blocker. Working on his mid-range game, which is unnecessary with this line-up, but still a plus.
and my Coach would be Phil Jackson if I thought that the triangle offense would work in any way, but it wouldn't. So my coach to get the most out of this line-up is Gregg Poppovich.

My present day NBA starting five would be
PG: Steve Nash
SG: Dwayne Wade
SF: Dirk Nowitzki
PF: Amare Stoudemire
C: Tim Duncan
This is my reason why
Steve Nash:
Best point guard in the league because he is the most consistent offensively and gets the people around him better.
Dwayne Wade:
The most complete player in the game right now. Can do it all and already has a ring to show it.
Dirk Nowitzki:
His defense has gotten better, a lot better and no small foward or power foward or guard can stop him when he's on offense. Got a good shooting touch and good driver.
Amare Stoudemire:
Most explosive dunker in the league right now and strong rebounder. To fast for other power fowards in the league.
Tim Duncan:
Best power foward of all time. He is the most fundamentally sound player in the NBA and gets it done on both sides of the ball.
