I had strep throat and stayed home from school for 3 days last week. One day, my mom was checking on me and saw that I was naked in bed. She screamed at me and wanted to know what I was doing. I just told her that I have started sleeping naked. She had a fit. She told me not to anymore. What is so wrong with it? I am 13 and I think I can choose how I sleep.

Wow, I have to say I'm surprised your Mother had a problem with it. Unless she is concerned about your Father walking in or something. You didn't mention if you have siblings. Talk to her about it in a calm manner ask her what about it she objects to. Tell her you find it more comfortable. What if you offer to keep a robe on the end of your bed at all times so if you get out of bed you will put it on and you will keep your door locked when you are naked so your Father, brothers, or whomever don't walk in on you. I think that would be her only concern, but I could be wrong.
Our 3rd son Kyle started sleeping naked when he turned 12. He just announced one day he was going to try sleeping 'commando'. His brothers gave him a hard time about it. But we just made the following rules, he had to keep his door locked when he did it because no one wants to walk in on that! or he had to keep shorts or robe at the foot of his bed and put them on before getting out of bed. (this also solves the fire issue) And you could always wash your own sheets if she objects for that reason. Just don't do what my stepdad did and go to the fridge without a robe (that is forever burned into my head, GROSS!)
We haven't had any problems with it at all. Finding out why your mom objects to it is your first step in overcoming her objection. But remember remove the 'emotion' from the conversation speak to her in a calm mature manner.

Sorry to hear you've been sick. . We've all been sick here, with 4 kids and a husband we just pass illnesses around.... Athough when everyone in the family is sick we all watch tv and play video games together, hanging out in the family room. We camped out there which was fun. Just not the sore throat part. We made lots of milk shakes, smoothies and ice cream. Hope you feel better soon.

Wow. No offense, but it sounds like your mom is a little unbalanced. Of all the things to get freaked out about... I wish I could offer you some advice, but if she's that flipped out over absolutely nothing, then I don't know what kind of luck you're going to have reasoning with her.Of course there's nothing wrong with sleeping naked! And what business it is of hers anyway, I can't imagine. Sorry. Maybe you should just try to avoid conflict on this issue. Sometimes it's better to choose your battles.
People are weird.
Oh, and SillyGirl, you have some real control issues. Maybe you should seek some help, and stop taking out whatever is wrong with you on others.

OK first of all, why should she care how you sleep? it your body and you are comfortable right? that's why you sleep that way! duhhhhh....... the only thing i could think of would be that if in the middle of the night your dad or if your brother came in your room, and you through your blanket off in your sleep, but other than that i would have no idea why. a lot of people sleep nude. sorry your mom is a little weird, lol
well maybe she thinks you sleep like that all the time and if you have friends stay the night or you stay the night with them maybe she thinks you sleep nude too? i really have no clue

Nothing wrong with it. Some people, like my stepson, just generate so much body heat that they can't stand to have covers or pajamas on. The only concern is that your mom was able to walk in on you, so if you have brothers they might, too. Either way, you should get a simple latch for your bedroom door so that no one can just walk in on you. At 13, you have a right and need for privacy.

Instead of getting upset, ask her why she doesn't approve. My mom caught me once, but didn't say anything. Sleeping in the nude is not a problem, in fact, its actually very healthy to do. Talk to your mom, kiddo.
To Jean: Sleeping naked is NOT dirty or unsafe. There is nothing wrong with it. Some people are very comfortable doing it.

I have a 12 year old girl, and out of respect for her other sister, and 2 brothers, I don't think she should be be sleeping naked, nor have she ever ask but the point is I don't understand at 13 why do you feel the need to sleep naked, respect your mom home, yea it's your room, buts it's your moms house, respect her first.

well, she does wash your sheets but i slept naked when i was that age too. its normal to experiment with what feels comfortable. your right , its your body and you can decide what to wear (or not to wear) to bed. i sleep in a sports bra and panties. i have been for years. just because you dont want to sleep in the traditional pants and shirt dosent mean you will be diffrent in a bad way. let your mom know that you arent the only girl that sleeps naked. a lot of my friends do. i dont like to wear pants because they bunch up an dtwist and so does the shirts. if it bothers her too much try a wifebeater (white tank top) to have next to your bed incase you know your mom will be coming. let her know that its not like she found you naked with a boy!!! lol!!
i hope you drama queen mother gets over this. im sure she has slept naked before!!

The only reason that I can think of that I wouldn't want me or any of my kids to sleep naked is if there were to be a fire in the house, they wouldn't have to waste time finding and putting on clothing in order to get out safely.

If you live at home, and obviously at 13 you would, sleep with some clothes on... even if it's just a tank top and panties.... You don't want people walking in on you and seeing you naked. What if your father was home with you and walked in to check on you?? Would you want him to see you were naked?? Okay, I understand your thought 'I'm under the covers nobody can see me, so what's the big deal' What happens if you get hot, you throw off your covers, you're buck naked and your dad walks in...won't you be embarrassed to find your father staring at your naked body???
If you live on your own or with your boyfriend/husband, you can choose to sleep however you are, but until that time, you should sleep with some sort of clothing on!!

Wow i have never heard this one befor and i really don't know why your mother would trip out because you sleep naked in YOUR own bedroom....The only thing i can say is talk to her let her know your not doing anything wrong and it's only your room your sleeping naked...Or you can be bad and sleep naked anyways what's she going to do?? Grab you and dress you herself?
