The average marriage in the U.S. lasts about 8 years, what about the average black marriage?

My Black parents were married 46 years when my Dad died...My parents' married friends and their age peers are STILL married..and are all in their 80's...

Divorce was less embraced for decades amongst Black families...but became more in 'vogue' for younger couples during the 70's and 80's -sadly

And despite what others have said, races and nationality do cause differences in statistics on marriage and divorce due the customs and mores, religion and value bases

wow! ok i hope i dont offend you. im not black and neither is my husband. but why is it about your race? marriage is what you make of it. if you go into the marriage thinking oh the average is only 8 years, then yours may only last that long. but if you go into it with the right attitude and say i love this person. we are ment to be together and we are going to make it work. then it will. how long a marriage lasts has nothing to do with your race. it has to do with how you see a marriage and with the attitude you have about it. i come from a divorced single parent family. my mom raised 3 of us by herself. does that mean its going to happen to me? no!! its a completely different relationship. you cant base how long a marriage lasts according to what color your skin is!!!

I don't know, I guess you'd have to ask yourself how honest you are going into the marriage and how well you communicate with your spouse. Being able to talk about your needs, and allowing your spouse to express himself without judgement. These are key in any relationship black or otherwise. I know as a black woman, I can come down hard, but at the same time, I am still a nurturing understanding wife. I give encouragement when needed, and give guidance without kicking him when he's down. If he did wrong, and he loves you, you don't need to kick him when he's down, (he gets that everyday of his life from outside sources). It takes work I am working on 20 years and still goin' strong.

Wow... Why so concerned with a black marriage?? Maybe that average marriage in the u.s. counted blacks, asians, caucasion,, hispanic, etc... What does the race have to do with anything!?!?

I figure that's included in the statistics.

How long does the average white marriage, asian marriage, indian marriage, etc. last??

Do the research!

Does it really matter if your black, white, purple or green? A marriage is a marriage. What does race have anything to do with it?

I don't believe race has anything to do with how long your marriage will last.
