If pregnancy is the highest expression of love that two people can create (ideally- i know there are one night stand babies, and whatnot), what of pregnancies resulting from artificial insemination from unknown doner sperm.

This question is not to knock AI families, i am considering it. i was just pondering the question.

Please, no replies that are anti-ai, because that's not the question i'm asking

The highest expression of love is not pregnancy, it is selflessness. Two people can have more love for one another, and be infertile, compared to many other married couples.
I think you might want to ask yourself "should I be artificially inseminated, and if so-would I love that child?"

Motherhood, the desire to give birth and shower love and affection on the children is the inbuilt quality of all women. If for some reason or the other one is not blessed with a child, the emptines gives lot of mental pain to the women. Apart from the badlooks of the society towards childless mother, a woman may feel like having that bliss, if the husband also thinks in the sameline. There is nothing wrong if a couple go for artificial insemination inorder to have children, to complete their desire.
When we are producing lot of eggs in a poultry farm and good crops by various methods in the farming, there is nothing wrong if the couple decides to go for artificial insemination to fulfill their desire of having children. It is purely their personal outlook towards theirlife. But they should bringup the child in the normal way by showering love and affection and creating a great future.

I don't really think that pregancy is the result of an ultimate expression of love. Pregnancy is the result of an egg being fertilized by sperm.

The ultimate act of love is just a really great way to motivate the union of the egg and sperm.

I think the ultimate act of love thing is more of a poetic description than a philosophy per se.

Although, you could consider it the ultimate expression of the love of a mother to go through the AI process to cause the baby which will be oh so loved.

You will have to face it -- pregnancy is not the highest expression of love. One night stand babies, In Vitro Fertilization, Cloning, not to mention the fact that animals like rats also get pregnant -- all point to a conclusion that pregnancy is simply a biological process of reproduction -- means to an end. It also a biological process that humans are coming closer and closer to replicating artificially.
As such humans should be judged by their qualities not by the way they came to this world: be it natural pregnancy, surrogacy, AI, cloning, or even a a human created entirely in vitro in an artificial uterus.

Pregnancy may be "biologically" the greatest expression of love between two people; but the child is loved for his/her own sake, not because of genetics. This is true even for non-biological children.
