I have an eMachines desktop C2780 that has been giving me issues. For some reason, if I leave it on for 30 minutes without touching it, the mouse and keyboard do nothing and it appears as though the computer has frozen.

I reset everything to factory settings and even installed a fresh copy of Windows XP Home. Why is it doing this?

Any help is greatly appreciated ... Thanks!!

There is not enough info here to help you but i can TRY and GUESS

First by the way that you say that the mouse freeze i assume that they are wireless, and if not then that is the first place to look at make sure that the hardware is functioning properly. Email me on how to do that.
Second thing is to look at the peripherals (mouse keyboard) are they functioning properly.
is there a short in the wires, have they been wet, dropped, anything can do that, or if it is that computer then like you said, you reset it to the factory settings and installed XP again that makes me think that it is the hardware. email me on how to check if the hardware is functioning properly

Go to Desktop and Right Click on it.

Go to Screensaver and to the bottem that say Power Saving.

Find anything that say about being idle at certain minutes or something.

Go to the control panel -> power options and see, if the powersaving settings shut down your harddisk after 30 minutes. I thing 30 minutes are standard. you can witch this off to "Never" but I think your harddisk has a problem to wake up again. you should check that.

good luck
