i don't think any of them could.
i am Democrat and even i would vote for Rudy. If he were the Republican on the ticket i'd be greatly surprised if he lost.

Obama, Gore, Edwards, and even Hilary
Rudy believes in most of the same progressive ideas as the rest of these candidates. He used to be a dem and his beliefs have changed little since then. He will have a tough time convincing the conservative base to get out the vote on his behalf.
As for liberals they will be unlikely to go for a moderate republican when a true blue Dem is available. Also, Obama and Edwards are more savvy and articulate politicians then Rudy.
That being said, a Rudy presidency would be light years ahead of Bush. He is a very egocentric and controlling man, but I think he at least has charachter and intelligence.

George Bush the elder went from 90%+ approval ratings to losing an election in less time than we have remaining until the next U.S. presidential election. It really is pretty pointless trying to predict how the voting will go, this far ahead of the event.
Giuliani has plenty of skeletons in his closet, if it looks like he'll win the nomination then they'll all come out to haunt him. The same is probably true of whoever wins the democratic nomination.
At this point, I think Obama has the best shot for the dems - but that is very much subject to change between now and the time when the voting actually matters.

Don't be so sure Giuliani is a shoo-in . . . remember, this was the same guy who was getting trounced by Hillary in every pre-election senate poll in New York pre-9/11. He's never had a difficult campaign. The man he beat to become Mayor, David DInkins, might have been the worse New York mayor of the last half century. And in '97, Ruth Messinger shot herself in the foot so often it was almost painful to watch.
I can't imagine either Clinton or Obama doing so quite so often.
It'll be interesting to watch, as an Independent.

Rudy G probably won't even get the nomination for the Republicans. He isn't a true conservative. He's what is affectionately known as a RINO. Republican In Name Only. He's pro-abortion and is center or left of center on a ton of issues. The key is to run to the right to win the nomination and then run to the center to win the general election. He's backwards.

Any Democrat because Rudy is a divorced Catholic pro choice, pro Gay rights, pro gun control Republican. Rudy loses the Republican base, might clear 30% in the general election. 30% loses to any Democrat who can clear 40% with 3rd parties taking 20-30%.
That said, run Rudi, run .
