It is possible if a python big enough tries. The body needs to be at the right angle for it happen. A python killed one man and tried to eat him. But the snake couldn't get his head over the width of the guys shoulders. Scientist think that the snake would have been successful had the man been turned a little to the the shoulders were the other way. A snakes mouth can open to extreme lenths. But it can't stretch sideways that much. Oh and that snake died. There are pictures around somewhere. You just need to look for them.

I searched for a documented incident and could not find any so any stories of such a swallow is maybe just anecdotal.
Pythons are able to swallow their prey whole because of their hinged jaw which actually separates and allows them to intake something that is five times as wide as its head. Even though they are often docile in captivity, they make poor pets because of their huge size and unpredictable behavior.

The truth about the story of the man eaten by a python as he napped-
he Pictures of the Man-Eating Snake-Fiction!
Summary of eRumor
This eRumor comes in several versions. All of them include pictures of a large snake that has obviously swallowed a very large meal. Then there are pictures of a human body apparently being cut from the belly of the snake. The differences among the versions are the location and explanation of the stories behind the pictures.
The Truth
TruthOrFiction.com is interested in tracking down the actual information about the pictures, but the consensus of the reptile experts that we have either talked with or discovered on the Internet is that the pictures are not what they are represented to be.
The pictures of the engorged snake, for example, are more likely the aftermath of the snake having killed and eaten an animal. The angular shape seems to be of some kind of four-legged creature rather than the form of a human.
There are a few stories of large snakes killing humans, but not many of them swallowing humans. The main reason, according to snake experts, is that snakes begin swallowing their prey at the head and with humans, the snake is confronted with a major obstacle when it gets to the shoulders. Snakes can ingest remarkably large creatures, but need a more gradual contour to do it.
The snake in the pictures is variously described in the eRumors as a boa constrictor, anaconda, or a python. The experts say it is a reticulated python.
The pictures of the man or boy appear to be from a different incident and a different snake and, according to experts, were apparently staged. They point out that the body is not in the kind of condition that would be true if it had been inside of a living snake. There victim would be more covered in slime. Also, the snake's entrails seem to be missing and were probably already removed prior to the entry of the body. Additionally, some pictures show that whoever was brave enough to stick his head inside the carcass may have had the help of a plastic bag over his head. Finally, if this person had been swallowed by a snake, he would have been swallowed head-first and his arms would be at his side.

There was a documentry on Discovery Channel or the Animal Channel about it only a week ago. The guy was swallowed whole because the snake's jaw opened up like a gate and slowly swallowed him. It took about two hours for the snake to swallow him fully. And it's also possibly for a python so swallow an alligator... it was recorded once, although the alligator's tail ripped open the side of the python and killed them both.

There are a couple of different species of snakes that get big enough to eat a person...a burmese python gets up to 20 something feet and many are over 200 pounds in captivity. A reticulated python is the longest snake in the world, the record being 35 feet or so from what I understand. I actully know people that own these types of snakes, and other 'giants' such as the anacondas. It is possible that they could kill a person, but to eat it I'm not so sure.

There appear to be no authentic cases of a python
swallowing a full-grown human. There have been
occasional children taken, at least according to
some things I have read. The width of the
shoulders of a full-grown person is too great for
the snake's jaws to stretch over.
Despite some stories (e.g. Swiss Family Robinson) constricting snakes do not break the
bones of prey and knead them into an elongate
mass to make them easy to swallow. They cut
off the prey's breath by tightening up every time it
exhales so that it suffocates. As for a python
regurgitating a hippo, as suggested by one answer, this is pure fantasy, except possibly in
the case of a newborn hippo. Hippos are just
too large for a python to cope with.

There sites that show photos of snakes attempting to eat a person but like the person above me stated the shoulders prevented the snake from doing so. Look up Man eating reptiles, I would have included the site where I found the photos but it is graphic and I don't know how old you are.
