Because most citizens in this country will NOT stand up for their rights. They allow the government to just do as they please in this "lessor of two evils" political system we have now.
They allow illegals to have more rights than the citizens, they allow the government to get involved in business and votes to be bought with special interest money.

The Politicians only listen when they feel they have something to loose. In the UK this only happens once every 4 to 5 years. In between they just do what they want in the hope that come election a small bribe here and there will be enough to make you forget the past.
Answer: (1) Fixed term elections every 2 years, (2) Limit all MP's to 4 Parliament sittings only.
Long enough to give them a chance to show what they can do, but not to long that you forget what they have done. Stops the career politician.

I don't believe that there is really a government that listens to it's people. We in the U.S. are not heard unless we are lobbyists backed by money. The main stream middle class pay the dues for everyone else but have no voice. Good Luck. However, I am proud to be a citizen of the United States.

Because the people of this country have become so disillusioned with politicians and politics to the extent that voter apathy has effectively meant Labour staying in power for too long, creating a bunch of arrogant, overbearing, dictator types. It's up to the people to tell them just what they think by voting for someone else, but VOTE YOU MUST or you will have more of the same.

It doesn't matter which party is in power, be it Labour or Conservative. All of them are a bunch of self serving hypocrites and are only interested in money. Hasn't Blair just bought his fourth house. After any general election the first thing a new PM does is give himself and his cabinet an increase in salary. They are just so out of touch with reality.

Does anyone know of any government that have ever listened to the people of the country, no and they never will know. Government are a prodigy of the rich and powerful, put there to organise the workforce of a country and keep them in check. We all might think we have the vote, but when we use it nobody in government listens, think about it.!!!

they choose not to listen because they know they can. I'm from the usa and in a good election we might get 45% vote. isn't that great when we blast our way all over the world telling everyone else how great a democracy we are. Actually the usa is a republic not a democracy.

Beacuase they do not care for us and simply want to control us whilst earning fat hefty pensions for themselves. Blair had made so many errors but has not once said sorry or even admitted to errors. The making of a man is that he apologises for his errors and does not make them again. Mr Blair choses to lie or ignore what he has done in the hope that it will go away.

Well said , I totally agree. This Government are a set of morons who like the sound of their own voices. They Tax,Tax, spend, spend and interfer, interfer.and are totally bleeding us dry. Now they are panicking because they can see they will be backing a loser in Brown and then they will all be out on their ears. Good riddance, that day can't come soon enough for me.
