It's considred 'freedom of speach', buts it's their way of saying they are inferior in the way they conduct their lives, to warn you and others they are unstable. Take it as though they are doing you a favor as to not have to meet them and become friends with them just to be dissappointed later. I had an employee with the confederate flag on his front tag on his truck. I ignored it. I'm white and live in Mississippi and when he asked me what I thought about it, I said " since you asked, I don't know if anybody told you, stupid, but we lost. You fly whatever you want, but all it does is to speak of what a dumba-ss you are." He responded, it was part of his heritage. I said, so is outhouses, but I bet you don't have one of those, do you? Ignore them, their used to it.

The Confederate Battle Emblem is viewed differently by different people. Now I'm guessing maybe you are Southern, or in the South, in which case they wouldn't care either way about the Confederate flag. If anything they would be likely to put one on your flag pole in some cases. The Nazi flag is only viewed ONE way and that is not a good way. The German aren't even very proud of that chapter of their history. Assuming you are serious in wondering it is legal to fly either in this country. Go to Germany though and you would get in a lot of trouble for that Nazi flag. See where some problems can come in then?

Volleyballchick what is so sad about people fighting for their homes? The U.S. INVADED the C.S.A. That battle emblem was a representation of fighting for their homes among other things. Some of us view the Civil War as a battle over STATE'S RIGHTS not slavery. Slavery was but one thing, the breaking point maybe, but not the ONLY thing. As to Jim Crowe that came YEARS later and STOLE the flag from Confederacy. Just because someone flies the flag doesn't mean they don't know what it stands for or that they support slavery, or are anti-black. It may mean they are supporting their heritage(family FOUGHT in the war and even Northerners fought in the Confederacy) or that they have a different view of the war then what text books teach.

Probably because the swastika is so closely associated with atrocities like death camps and torture. Most people would interpret a person flying that flag as one who thinks the extermination of the Jews was OK, that assumptions of racial superiority are OK etc. The difference is that the confederate battle flag isn't perceived as so radical. Incidentally it's a shame the swastika is perceived that way because it is a different for of the cross, and was used as a cross by prior civilizations. Hope this is helpful. Also to norm de guere above, the battle flag was not the stars and bars, the stars and bars from a distance is almost identical to the American (union) flag of the same time period, the battle flag (rebel flag) is not the stars and bars, you need to become more informed.

The confederate flag is not the same thing as the nazi flag.
I'm not even american born (just naturalized) and I know enough civil war history to know that the civil war was NOT primarily about freeing the slaves. I hate how missinformed people are.
Did you know that Lincoln himself didn't give a rat's *** about freeing the slaves?... He said it very clearly and basically to him the slaves were just a wonderful way to justify the war and make the union cause look more righteous. The confederates had plenty of bad people in their ranks, but the civil war was mainly about the rights of the states to govern themselves as opposed to the almighty federal government sticking their nose into everything.
I would have a problem with a racist person who flies a confederate flag, but for someone who had ancestors in the confederate states, there is nothing wrong with flying a confederate flag.
The biggest problem with confederates is that they refused to drop the slave issue early in the game. If they would have let the slaves go free from the beginning, they would have won the war and we would all have more freedoms and fewer federales shoving their crap down our throats.

It's the ideal. People tend to be a little more accepting of the Confederate flag due to it being a part of American history. Most tend to forget/choose not to recall what the flag really stood for, which is very sad.

Each has the right to fly whatever flag they choose. There is freedom of speech and freedom of expression rights involved with it.

Sort of an oxymoron , but , not really Think of it this way . The Union and the Confederates belong to a 'Family" . One of them lost an arguement. you don't take his **** away . You try to be friends. right.

You get into an arguement with a stranger . You Kick the **** out of them and take away anything that would allow him to retalliate. By outlawing the flag you don't allow them a symble to ralley around. I was born there in Austria during the war and can understand why.

It's supposed to be the land of the free so you should be able to put up any flag that you want to. If people don't like it maybe they shouldn't look at it.

I think all my fellow citizens should be proud and pleased to fly the American flag!

I don't need any other!

The Stars and Bars is not the equivalent to the Nazi flag.

You're a racial chauvinist. Shame on you. Chauvinism is the bedrock of fascism.
