ok, there are 2 that rise above all others.
1. cedar point in sand duskey ohio. They have 15 or 16 roller coasters. one of them goes 120 mph and has a 420 foot drop!!!
2. Six Flags Magic Mountain (California). This is the only other one that matches up to cedar point. They have about the same number of legit coasters.
I guess it just depends on what part of the country you would like to visit, but I would say Cedar Point is the ultimate coaster destination. My brother and I have been coaster enthusiasts for years and Cedar Point is unreal!
Now if you aren't looking for coasters or you have young children, I would say Orlando Florida is the best destination. They have Universal Studios, Sea World, Disney World (magic kingdom, epcot center, MGM, Animal World, and about 4 water parks), Wet and Wild, Islands of Adventure. If you are taking young children this would be your ultimate destination. Just be prepared to fork out some money for higher admission prices (60-80 bucks a pop......you can get multi park passes for a cheaper rate though)........six flags and such have slightly cheaper prices (40-55 bucks). Kids are always cheaper of course.
The bottom line is if it is intense roller coasters that you are looking for, six flags in california or cedar point in ohio are BY FAR the best. However, if you are looking for family entertainment Orlando, Florida is your best bet.
People can say what they want about Disney World, but it is a complete rip-off. It will cost you almost 80 bucks to get in, 10 bucks for a hot dog and soda, and if you are in search of good, adult rides, they have little or none (i have been about 20 times throughout my life with family that visited the area and wanted to go). However, it is something everyone should experience once in their life......and if you have young children, they will love it. If it is excitement you seek, Disney World is the worst choice of them all. They have no legitimate roller coasters. Islands of Adventure in Orlando have a couple legit coasters and have plenty for the kids if you seek both excitement and kid's rides. On that note, even Cedar Point and Six Flags have plenty for the kids, I just wouldn't go there if my main objective was to satisfy young children.
Good luck

It all depends on what you're looking for and how long you have to visit.
If it's roller coasters you're looking for, one answer above was correct in pointing out Cedar Point in Ohio or Six Flags in Valencia California.
If you're looking for a bunch of awesome "theme" parks including some of the best coasters, then Orlando may be your best bet. One of my favorite parks is Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure, both in Orlando. Add the Disney Parks, Sea World, and Busch Gardens (in Tampa) and you've got a trip to remember!!
If you need any help locating/planning some of your trip, let me know.
Hope that helps!

I couldn't tell you which is the best, but I have been to a few in Texas and nearly all of Disney World in Florida. I can tell you that the latter is highly overpriced and over-rated. I thought Animal Kingdom was just a rip-off. But from personal experience, I would suggest Six Flags over Texas (in Arlington) because they have loads of roller coaster rides. Go there if you know someone in the Dallas-Fort Worth Area. Other theme parks in Texas include Fiesta Texas and Astroworld. I went to Fiesta Texas many years ago, so it might've changed quite a bit.

If you're looking for adult rides (meaning intense roller coasters), without a doubt Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio is above the rest. They have the most coasters in the country and also the hightest and fastest. They have a new one opening this year that looks like it will be great. Check out their web site.

Disneyland!!! It is a great place to go for all ages. Plus California adventure is next door. You can just get a park hopper ticket to be able to go from park to park, with no limit at all for how many times you visit each place. Really look into it, it is a great and wonderful place to go.
