Contact your local city police departments or even county sheriff departments. They can let you know if they are hiring. Or if they have a website, you can look there and they should list employment opportunities.
When you start dispatching, you will go through a lot of training. Usually they are looking for someone that can remain calm in any situation, can speak CLEARLY, has great customer service capabilities, can operate a computer and equipment well, type quickly, can multitask, and can use a radio.
It is a good field to get into. Can be stressful at times. If they have more than 1 dispatcher on at a time, then it isn't so bad. If it is just you, it can get really busy at times, especially if there is a major incident occuring. And it gets tricky trying to go to the bathroom. But it can be a good job and a good way to get a foot in the door to law enforcement if you are interested in that.

Usually when an emergency dispatch is hiring they will advertise it in the local newspaper. I have known people who have worked in these environments and they say it is a very stressful job. Unless you can keep your cool in a stressful situation you might want to think again before applying. They probably have training to see if applicants meet the criteria before hiring for such a position.
Good Luck,

Check with your local Community College. Dispatchers have to get Certified, so check on that as well. Also, talk to a dispatcher and get the pertinent answers.
