I plan on moving to san antonio to escape the boredom of Des Moines, IA which part of town should I avoid living in?

Most of the area from NE to NW along 1604 is pretty nice. Some of the homes are pricey, but not all. There are a lot of nice apartments in that area also, if you don't want to buy right away.

Hey I live on the notorious Southside and it's actually gotten alot better!! Back in the 90s, you basically had gangbangers controlling the streets (Zarzamora, SW Military, Roosevelt, etc) and now they're kinda kept in check. I would NOT recommend the Northeast now b/c it's just as bad but more expensive to live on that part of town. Near East Side and West Side are pretty bad. I would go with North Central or Downtown if I were you.
Hey like I said, SA used to be alot worse in terms of crime. I guess it's whatever you're used too. I know I had some white college friends (I'm Hispanic) who were pretty scared to go anywhere South of downtown but it's whatever you're used to.

In all honesty it really depends on what you are looking for and your age/family situation.
My family is 30 something with 1 child and we live on the far NE side of town. One problem in this area when you have older kids is that the high schools are over crowded because of the growth, but I believe the North Side district is having the same problems.
As with any urban/metro area, the closer to the hub of the city, the lower the quality. The Southside of town is growing because of the Toyota plant, but it's not to full potential yet and probably won't be for a few more years. NE side schools are expanding to help with the growth, but probably won't catch up for another year or two so I'm guessing Northside is the same.
I would probably advise that you look in the NE, North or NW parts of town, North of IH35 & Loop 410, closer to 1604. believe me, all of these will make sense when you really start looking and asking realtors or apartment people.

avoid the south side like the plague. The nicer parts of San Antonio is N, NC and NE.

Do not live on the south side, or the northeast side. Try to stay on the northwest side or at least the north central areas. There is a lot of crime in SA be very careful wherever you go. My husband and I have lived here for a while now and can't wait to move.

you in basic terms could desire to look there are some lovable shops in case you be responsive to the place to look i could advise downtown because of the fact i be responsive to that the place i stay there isnt very plenty yet you are able to seem in alot of the little paying for centers in assessment to the mall and while all else fails perpetually 21 or on line paying for is the perfect thank you to pass additionally pacsun, buckle, and shops like that san antonio isn't that great of a paying for place, believe me, I easily have lived right here my finished existence i do all my paying for on line so i'm hoping this helps :) in case you opt for from now on information on SATX in simple terms permit me be responsive to i could be chuffed to help

You are crazy to move there..The crime is ridiculous..Its on the news every night..We live 40 min from there in the country away from it all..Go to Austin you definately wont be bored there..Its got the Calif. feel to it...Yuppy style..The drivers here in Texas are awful... Truck drivers here will Run you off the road if your not careful..The only thing going for San Antonio is the river walk which is quite nice..There is six flags over Texas..sea world..Like I said the crime is bad......Its all on the south side.

I would try to find another place to move to, unless you really would be ok with the major hispanic influence of the whole city. Crime is horrible, as is the overall low educational level of the majority of it's citizens. I truly hate SA, but live in the burbs northeast of SA as my family is close by.

the southside is awful, the eastside also, the westside is ok-ish... the northside is where you might want to move to... but it wont come cheap! i live near downtown and its ok but we would really like to move to the country or northside... those are good...
