Drinking alcohol during pregnancy can cause physical and mental birth defects.
When a pregnant woman drinks, alcohol passes swiftly through the placenta to her baby. In the unborn baby’s immature body, alcohol is broken down much more slowly than in an adult’s body. As a result, the alcohol level of the baby’s blood can be even higher and can remain elevated longer than the level in the mother’s blood. This sometimes causes the baby to suffer lifelong damage.
Some of the things you are putting your baby at risk for is fetal alcohol syndrome( FAS is one of the most common known causes of mental retardation) a combination of physical and mental birth defects. Their organs, especially the heart, may not form properly. Many babies with FAS also have a brain that is small and abnormally formed, Manny have poor coordination and a short attention span and exhibit behavioral problems.
Even if not mentally retarded, adolescents and adults with FAS have varying degrees of psychological and behavioral problems and often find it difficult to hold down a job and live independently.
Think wisely about what you do and how it affects others!

The mother is treated horribly when seen drinking or drunk during pregnancy. She will be told repeatedly that she is a horrible person and a horrible mother. She wll be treated as scum and seen that way. She will be shunned and people will not fawn over her the way they do other pregnant women. People will fortell heinous issue with the baby and probably horrible disfiguration. When the baby is born, every issue that comes up will be blamed on the mother, especially if the baby is early. She will be judged to have done this to the baby and be treated even worse.
I don't necessarily think that she shouldn't be treated this way, she is choosing to do this. But those are the social consequences for drinking, loneliness, anathema, guilt and exile.

Do you mean the social effects on a mother not drinking during pregnancy?
- Well she wouldn't be able to go to bars or shows where there is cigarette smoke...so she might miss a concert or hanging out with friends in that circumstance (but it's totally worth it to have a healthy baby).
But other than that, if she's with friends who are socially drinking, she can just have a soda or juice, it shouldn't be a big deal.

Sounds like you are looking for other people to do your homework for you. Who cares about the social consequences? The consequences are that your baby will llikely have fetal alcohol syndrome and never function normally.

I am not exactly sure what you are asking. But my doctor said a couple glasses of red wine a week are perfectly safe, it can actually help stop Braxton Hicks contractions. Of course I have been to paranoid. I had a half a glass a few weeks ago cause I was having some mild cramping(I am 27 weeks). My husband says I am being uptight. He is German and the doctors there tell pregnant women to have a glass of wine everyday to help them relax and it helps keep the blood healthy.

nevermind the social consequences.. think about the baby! isn't that more important than social consequences? if you're really concerned about the social consequences, then consider what people will think of you if you have a miscarriage as a result of your drinking!
