No.
From the way your statement is made, it appears that you feel white guys in the south are more racist because you have to approach them to get simple conversation. Is that what your trying to get across? Because if that's what your basing your racism on.... just because someone doesn't speak to you doesn't make them a racist. I mean... in that case, Britain's are racist, since they live across the ocean and don't speak to you too.....
To be honest, every NATIONALITY (sorry.... but your all part of the HUMAN RACE) has it's own people that are racist. Some are more open about it, and some are more physical about it. Racism is a global problem.

There could be some truth to that, but I seriously doubt there is any way to know that for sure. All I can say is that I have seen more overt racism down here than when I lived in, say Oregon. But it may simply be that people in other places who are racist are simply not as vocal about it for fear that they will be chastised and riduculed for their beliefs. I have also noticed that some places in the midwest do not appear racists on the surface... simply because there are few to no black people there, so the subject never comes up. My wife grew up in rural Indiana and said she never thought anything was out of whack until a black family moved to town and their kids came to school. Then all of a sudden, everyone was racist. The family left town within a year. So one could argue that the south might be a better place for a black person... because there are other black people here and the white people are used to them being there.

As someone living in FL now who grew up near Boston I would have to say in my opinion YES.
Sad but true. As a matter of fact; I had a dark skinned boyfriend up north and nobody ever looked twice at us. Then one time we took a road trip to Key West, and as soon as we were south of Baltimore we started getting dirty looks. By the time we hit Georgia a guy with rental cabins even refused to let us have one.

I'm a white guy and I do not believe that I become more racist when I travel in the South.

It is just that there are more demorats down there. The Repulican Party has done more for civil rights than the demorats will ever even think about. If you don't believe me, read a couple od Sammy Davis Jr.'s autobiographies and see what he went through with his demorat buddies. YBIC

There are areas where racism is rampant on both sides of the spectrum. There are many blacks who don't want racism to end.

I don't think they are MORE racist, I think, though, that racism is more accepted in the south, so they are more vocal and obvious about it.
