There are always so many answers per question in polls and surveys, compared to other catogories?

Because the questions that people ask in Polls and Surveys that appeal to peoples' sense of humour as many of them are just about human curiosity, rather than particular subjects which require specific knowledge.
So I guess the true answer is...because ANYONE can answer them!

I think that most of the questions do not require a right or wrong answer, the answer is generally an opinion, so you don`t need to be an academic to give an answer; it is possible for mere mortals to take part without making fools of themselves!
