Why don't the record companies and movie studios just make the price of CD's and DVD's less? Then nobody would sell bootleg copies cause there would be no money in it. If every new CD was $7.00, and new released movies were $12.00, they would sell double what they sell at todays prices, and would have to worry about people making copies.

Dead right. It's straight out greed from the companies. Most of the big name movies double what they spent making them while still on the big screen.

I only buy new dvds when can get them for $AU15...20 tops. Even that is a rip-off when you work out that you can get a spindle of blank dvd discs for about 50 cents a disc. I'ld bet a spindle of blanks that the studios don't pay that much to make them.

Record and film companies could only drop the price so much before they no longer make a profit. One has to remember how much it costs to produce a film or a record and that it will always be cheaper to get an illegal copy. So unfortunately decreasing the price would not fix the problem.

Greed. Thats why I only buy used stuff for less than half the price or I download everything. As for supporting the artists of the cd's I download? I go to their shows and I buy their t shirts. The RIAA can get their cut from someone else.

They have actually reduced the prices of CDs and movies to try to get people to stop illegally downloading. They're just a little too greedy to reduce them enough to really make it work.

I get my boot leg movies for $1-$5 so they would have to lower the prices pretty low.

I hear what you're saying. 7 is better than 16 when you have to pay for it, however, FREE is still better than 7, so bootleg DVD's will still be created they would just be sold cheaper than they are now.

not everyone would respond. some people would rather go for dirt cheap or free illegal copies than discounted original copies. i think its a rebel thing, "what is wrong feels right"..
