The 1898 Indian Head cent (there is no such US coin called a penny) has a population of 49,000,000 + which is fairly high. This is considered a common date.

The grading is more important here. When you say in good condition, good is one of the lowest grades possible. We use a 70 point scale to grade coins from Basal 1 to Mint State 70. A good condition coin ranges from about Good-4 to Good-6 so you can see Good-6 out of 70 points is very low. It would be worth anywhere from 5 cents to 20 cents.

If it is in Mint State condition with good strike, good luster and great eye appeal, it could be worth 300 to 1,000 dollars, the range depends on many factors of Mint State because Mint State goes from MS-60 to MS-70

Yes, it is a cent, but even coin collectors refer to it as a penny. Goes back to colonial times. The 1898 Indian Head cent had a mintage of 49,821,284, so it is not scarce or rare even in high grades. It was minted during the Spanish American war. In grade good it is worth $1.30 up to $1.70 in grade fine. If the coin has a strong liberty in head band, then it grades higher and is worth more.Best bet there is see a dealer. Values quoted are what a dealer would pay.
