Wasabi is fine. It's just a type of mustard. It actually helps to kill off any parasites that are in food.
Sushi just means 'with rice' so can still contain raw fish. You should avoid all raw fish while pregnant, but not all sushi has fish. You can get vegetarian sushi - eg with avocado.
However, some people say avoid all sushi because the rice can potentially harbour bacteria. The risk is probably pretty low, but it's best to avoid food poisoning when you are pregnant! It depends whether you feel you can trust the source and how long the rice might have been hanging around from. If you made your own vegetarian sushi, that would be fine.

Wasabi is the green spicy mustard condiment. It's just a vegetable, it's safe to eat while pregnant though it can give you heartburn with too much.
Sashimi is raw fish: not safe due to the possibility that there could be parasites in it.
Sushi can have anything in it, so you can eat whatever sort doesn't contain raw fish (for example cooked crab, cooked shrimp, vegetable, seaweed).
Just avoid the raw fish but anything else is fine.

Wasabi is fine....sashimi and sushi are NOT....You really shouldn't even eat sushi that has cooked ingredients (like California rolls for instance)...Even the "cooked" sushi is made around all the raw ingredients for other sushi...your cooked ingredients could have easily come in contact with the raw fish the chef was preparing for other sushi and sashimi.
Best to stay away from the raw stuff until after you're pregnant

wasabi is just like horseradish, so there' s no harm in eating it.
but as for raw fish, which is the main ingredient and sushi or sashimi, both are very dangerous. Pregnant women are 20 times more likely to get food poisoining, and certain types of food poisoining are fatal to the fetus.
You can eat cooked shushi or vegetarian sushi, such as cucucmber and avocado rolls.

Wasabi, no problem, as long as the spiciness isn't giving you heartburn.
As far as sushi goes, there are some kinds of fish and sea food to completely stay away from (like shark) and you need to make sure that all your fish is completely cooked. I know, the raw sushi tastes better, but just go for the California rolls, or crispy rolls, and the "fake" cooked ones like that.

If you are in the US, the sushi that is prepared for you contains flash frozen fish, therefore it is ok to eat. Still don't go eat it every day, but in moderation it is fine. I have actually found one sushi that is cooked, its called crunchy sushi, it has cucumber, crab, cream cheese, and maybe avocado. Just make sure to ok this with your doctor, and when find a place around you that gets their fish in that has been flash frozen. Also the lady saying that shrimp and such is not good is wrong! Fish with High levels of Mercury Shark, Swordfish, King Mackerel, or Tilefish 12 oz. (~2 meals) of Low-Mercury Fish per week shrimp, crab, cod, clams, scallops, canned light tuna, canned salmon, pollock, and catfish etc. Note: Albacore "White" tuna contains more mercury. Limit 6 oz (~1 meal) of albacore tuna per week. This came from the 2nd website below, it explains sushi and pregnancy. in the United States pregnant women are scared away from Sushi. "Don't eat any raw fish, it can harm you. There are bacteria, there are parrasites." But none of these warnings is specific about which bacteria and which parasites are not safe in Sushi during pregnancy. And they often fail to mention that fish eaten in a Sushi restaurant in the US is usually flash frozen by the distributers before it gets to the restaurant. Any parasites or bacteria in the fish is usually killed during the process

I would say watch out for heartburn-- especially those last few months... I would stay away from raw sushi... the rest of it should be fine... and I don't think wasabi would harm the baby-- just make you uncomfortable. If you're still unsure, ask your doctor or midwife... make sure to limit the amount of fish, b/c high amts of mercury can be found in certain types of fish and seafood that can cause damage to the baby.

Nothing wrong with wasabi if you can handle it. It caused heartburn for me. You are right, raw sushi is frowned upon during pregnancy but cooked sushi is not. Be careful still in not consuming loads of tuna.
