Card games like whist were popular in that era and so was horse racing. It's very likely that he played cards and chess in the evenings and hosted some dances (Dolly Madison acted as his first lady and hostess). Horse racing was, of course, an outdoor entertainment and probably seasonal as well.

Oh, and he undoubtably read books. There was probably a good deal of music in the evenings, too. Before television and radio made professional music available nearly every family had someone who played an instrument.

he use to play flip the coin from elbow to hand...kick the can...and round the table wife chase...i think he played naked twister on saturday nights too.
