I am a Canadian, Quebecoise. Canadian will always come first as for most of us here. We are not looking to separate, we don't think that we are different or even special, no more so that anyone else. We just want to make sure that we can protect our language and our culture. Most people dislike Quebec sooooo much that they don't even KNOW what the history of Quebec is. If people would just take the time to learn Some of it they would maybe understand. I do not agree with a lot of what the Quebec government is doing when in comes to the language thing, They should not be allowed to have french only sings and expect the rest of Canada to have both. I think that is so hypocritical. We are losing out in the tourism industry because of this {and I don't blame people for not wanting to come here} and it is a shame because we do have so much to offer. The fact that we can be a distinct people and still be Canadian is all we want. Since that has happened the whole question of separation has pretty much disappeared for us the people, of course the Bloc see it differently. I always go to the analogy that we{no matter who you are} don't like or even hate what we don't know or understand. This is something that applies to all aspects of life, just asked someone who does not use a computer what they think about it, they will not like it I can guarantee you that.
Just my 2 cents

"Deserve" it? An interesting question.
As to whether Quebec *is* a distinct society, that's pretty obvious as soon as you go there.
In many ways Quebec is more like a European country than like other provinces. When you go there, it's not just about being surrounded by another language. Even the different traffic lights can throw you.
Quebec culture actually seems to grow more distinct every year (though really, it's just that the rest of Canada is becoming more like the U.S.) Year after year, for example, Quebec's film industry outshines the rest of Canada.
It's a shame that more Canadians don't visit Quebec to see firsthand what it's like. It's a lot cheaper than going to Europe, and a lot more interesting than the U.S.

Absolutely not. We are all Canadian first. Why does Quebec think that the rest of Canada should spend millions of dollars (maybe more) to have everything translated, when in fact in their province you'd be hard pressed to find anything in English. Go to small town Quebec, speak English and you will get the dirtiest look you've ever had in your life. Guess who's paying for their seven dollar a day day-care, THE REST OF CANADA. Distinct society, I think not, they are at the trough like everyone else, maybe more!!!!
