When Dottie got knocked over by Kit and dropped the ball, allowing KIt's team to win, do you think she did it on purpose to make her sister feel good? or was it intended to be an actual drop?

That's so funny that you asked about this movie, because I was thinking about it this morning. I watched it last night with the Spanish language track on, to work on learning Spanish. Anyway, to answer your question, no I think Dottie tried her hardest to stop Kit in the end and would have beaten Racine if she could, but she was happy that her sister did everything she could to win it. The proof for me was when Dottie told the pitcher to throw high fast balls at Kit which she knew Kit was no good at hitting. She wanted Kit to prove to herself that she was a great player and that she didn't get into the league just because she was Dottie's younger sister and she wanted Kit to really have to fight to prove it. It was tough love. She may have dropped the ball on purpose, but I really think Kit hit her hard enough to knock it out of her hand.

That is one of those things that is sort of left to the viewer. Most people believe that she dropped it, but there are those that believe that Kitt actually knocked out of her hand because she had finally gained enough strength to not live in her sister's shadow. It is up to you. The movie never clarifies exactly what happened.

I believe that she knocked it out because if Dottie just gave the win to her, she would know and that would cause even more problems between the two. She had to legitimately beat her sister in the game in order for the two to become sisters instead of enemies.

It was intended. Dottie did it to let her sister have some glory and stand out on her own. Kit was always in Dottie's shadow and it was time for her to come out from it and be her own star.
