Depends on your preference, how much you want to spend, and how much time and care you are willing to put forth.

Water Dragons are mostly carnivorous. They will eat veggies and fruits but if you limit their diet to only that, they will starve. Beardies are omnivores. Usually in their adult life I have noticed they lean more toward veggies as their preference, but they are happy with both.

WDs get fairly larger than a beardie (Adult males WDs can grow to about 3 feet in length), so a large tank or homemade set up is required. At LEAST six feet in length. The least amount of space for a beardie, I would say, is about a 55 gallon. Since they don't get as large as a water dragon in length, they don't need an extra large set up.

WDs need about 80% humidity as well. Misting them throughout the day works. Buying a substrate that will hold moisture in longer is also recommended for the humidity requirements. Beardies do not need humidity, as they are desert animals, and deserts are dry heat.

A source of water to swim in is also something to add to your set up for a WD. This water should be changed daily also, since water dragons also use this source to drink from. Beardies do not need a larger water source since they are not swimmers (deserts...).

Both need heat lamps, UVA/UVB lights, and basking areas. Beardies need a basking area that reaches about 100 to 105 degrees F. WDs need a basking area that reaches in the 90's. Beardies are find with some rock foliage, and maybe some fake plants.
water dragons like branches, vines and some rocks to climb on. Basically, something similar to a rain forest setting.

I have 3 beardies and 3 water dragons I love all of them but I cannot handle the water dragons the same way you can a beardie. I can set any one of my beardies on my lap and start typing away they may get restless after a while and let me know by roaming but never off my body. my dragons stay about 1.3 seconds on my lap before they are looking to climb something. water dragons are not necessarily difficult to raise but they do require a different setup. my beardies have free roam of the house with a specific area they stay in but my dragons are in a 60g tank they are also alot more paranoid than beardies. when you do get them to sit still the slightest noise can get their attention and they are either off to investigate or clinging to the ceiling. if you are looking for one or the other try to take in factors such as size, habitat, children around, and life span of the reptile you get. either way they are both great pets. info on both is provided below

Well, both eat crickets/mealworms/waxworms/alive things...., they both need UV light, they both make good pets, are friendly and hand-tame.

The water dragon will get bigger (about 3 feet, normally females are a LOT smaller, and males usually arent that big anyway), needs humidity, needs a large cage, and eats a lot more. They are also a lot more reluctant to eat their greens....

The bearded dragon will be about 2 feet, needs a dry climate(which is easier to make than a humid one in a house) and needs a smaller cage at adult size. They eat a lot too, but they can be fed greens and will take greens more often.

It comes down to the color you desire and the size you can afford. Beardies come in so many colors, they're really cool, but are VERY expensive. Water dragons come in... green and more green. They get very pretty though.

Remember, both need UV light. Theres no choice in that.

good luck with your choice of dragon! ^.^

I absolutely love my water dragon! he is curious and tame and a wonderful pet but water dragons are "intermediate" lizards so its best if you have some knowledge of caring for lizards if you choose the water dragon. the beardies on the other hand are more "beginner" lizards they are very tame and personable and rather easy to care for compared to other kinds of lizards. Water dragons are usually cheaper to buy though but many of them are wild caught as beardies are more often captive bred and thus healthier. both are very intelligent and make great pets!

wow..first of all- the person who answered the bearded dragon gets bigger than the water dragon is WRONG...bearded dragons get 24 inches..water dragons get 3 to 4ft..you should research your information before answering questions..
both are fun to have. beardies need a basking area one side of the tank that needs to be at least 100 degrees or more. the other side should be around 80. same with the water dragon but they need an area to swim in. i recomend a kitty litter pan filled with water. you can put small fish in the water.(he'll eat them) both eat greens such as endive, romaine and other dark veggies. no head lettuce. you should give them gut loaded crickets also. but when they get bigger you can cut down on the crickets.
both are friendly. my beardie used to sit on my couch with me and chill.
the set ups are expensive if you do it right..but it is so worth it!!

I love both and if I had the room I would get a water dragon, but water dragons need a lot more space then a beardie and their habitat is harder to maintain.

My first lizard became a chinese language Water Dragon, and he or she became so candy. Any animal may well be lovey in case you advance them good. i've got on no account had a Bearded Dragon yet i comprehend they are fairly candy. i've got 2 chinese language Water Dragons and the two have been super. i might get a Water Dragon, however, in basic terms because of the fact all human beings else is getting Bearded Dragons. lol

I wouldn't say either one is better, because they both have different qualities.

Beardies are generally easier to care for, mostly due to their environmental needs. It is much easier to keep their home dry, rather than trying to keep it moist. With a water dragon, it is a battle to keep the humidity in check. They both have good sized appetites, so don't be suprised if your running to the pet store to get food often.

If you want something easier to care for, you probably would want to go with a beardie. If you want to be more involved with your pet, go with a water dragon.

allright im going to give you a comparison chart ( sorta )
beardies get very big compared to a w.d.
both need heating lamps, nightime lamps, and uvb/uva bulbs
both eat both veggies and crickets
beardies need a sand substrate or a turf, came with w.d.s
both needs hiding places and climbing areas
the w.d needs a large swimming area, requiring a HUGE set up
the beardie will need a large tank because of his size
i think beardies have alot more personality to them.
but so do water dragons....
beardies are usually alot more expensive to buy
either or, both are a great choice!

my personal preference is beardie, because i have one :)
but seriously, beardies are in my opinion really easy to take care of. when they are young they need lots of protein aka crickets and meal worms and stuff. when they get older, they will slow down and get lazy and fat and so cute and stuff, but they will eat less protein and more veggies and fruits. my beardie loves romaine lettuce, btw only use romaine lettuce cuz its healthier than all of the other lettuces. definitely go beardie.
