It's a simple case of having no coalition big enough (50% plus) that is willing to back each and every govt proposal - and PMs who keep resigning in protest (upset at not having the support).

If it were up to me, I'd make it so that a new prime minister would be instantly elected in a tournament within parliament, and each party in parliament would be allowed to put one proposal to a vote every week - it is a case of accept or reject each proposal for change and live with the outcome, and let some numeric issues be settled with a median number vote.

& if all else fails, abolish proportional representation.

I wish all politics were like the Italian system. I've lost count of the number of governments since the last war but the Italians seem to thrive on it. If only we had the same in Britain!!! Until Berlusconi came along, there was usually an annual changeover. Now that he's gone, we seem to be back to normal. The answer is, I'm sure, nobody has a clue which is why it works so well. Don't knock it!

Chaos as usual. I have never understood how the country manages to keep going . It is totally beyond my understanding and has been like that for the past 50 years of my life.
