He was great to start with. He managed to turn the country around after the mess the tories left it in. Then power slowly started to corrupt. He took a left of centre party (although less left than it was before he was made leader) and slowly moved it to the centre.

Then he began to see power as being more important than belief and he changed party policy to make a left wing party into a right wing one - Conservative Lite if you please.

Basically he was a good bloke who had a vision but when it started to go wrong he chose the easy option rather than the correct option.

Hi, I live in California and want to comment on Tony Blair. I am very happy that he has decided to begin the process of pulling the British troops out of Iraq. I respect his decision and the fact that he is not sending more troops there since Bush is threatening to do so. Some have said that Blair takes the lead from Bush however I think this shows he is thinking about what's best for the UK and will do the right thing. I wish he could have some influence on Bush, however, that's a tall job!

Bottom line is he made Labour electable again. The Conservatives would have done exactly the same in Iraq, and continued to decimate public services at the same time. He may have angered many people with some of his policies but would you really rather see Michael Howard or Iain Duncan Smith in power right now?

I'm in America... One of the most disappointing things about the Brits is they seem to overlook Blair's stabilizing influence on American politics... all they see is his compromises, they dint see that This idiot here has compromised to Britons stability and consultation.
I have the greatest admiration for the mans involvement in the world today,.... had he NOT so vigerously involved Britton in Bushes agendas, Who knows where the war would 'be' today....OR ...where we would be ..in war .. OR ..where YOU would be in war...
It seems to me the britt's are a littel miss-informed about what exactly Tony Blair HAS done ...and are being as miss-informed as the American people are....
Now ... ther are two world influenceual people who have changed the corse of history ... one is unpopular for his stability...the other is unpopular for his instability........ The britts are pissin in there beer..... the yanks are pissin up a rope...

I think he's been OK, particularly in the early days, but had been a bit stupid with the whole Iraq situation.

I don't think Gordon will be shafted by Bush so easily, could be interesting.

More Nurses, More Doctors, More Police, More help for the Aged, More help for unmarried mothers etc.....
Need I go on. People have very short memories of what this country was like under the damn Tories "Boom and Bust" policy.
Ohh, I nearly forgot, remember the POLL TAX???

To be honest, I think he is a straightforward sort of guy.
Going to war with Irag for his country's interests and
as an ally with the USA showed he was a true friend
indeed.
