Norman Bates is a fictional character created by writer Robert Bloch as the central character in his novel Psycho. The character was based on real-life killer Ed Gein. The book was turned into a movie.
You have to figure out if you admire Ed Gein, Norman Bates, or Robert Bloch.
If it is really Norman Bates, maybe you watched the movie and the actor is who you admire.
So admiring a movie actor character is no surprise and many people do that. He had a very good portrayal in that movie from what I remember.
Last but not least...
