I have a 25 gallon tank and I have a filter that is recommended for the tank. The filter seems to be sending ouy air bubbles out of it and the air bubbles just sit on top of the water, is there a way I can stop these bubbles from forming, they are starting to make my tank ugly.

The bubbles are normal, but them hanging around is not. These "tough bubbles" are causes by fats and protiens in the water. Those generally come from fish food that was uneaten. The only way to remove the problem is to change water. Be very careful of how much you are feeding. Feed only what they can eat in 3-4 minutes once or twice a day. There are some other causes of bubbles that just hang around, including soap in the water, but those are far more rare.

Like MM said it could be fats or proteins in your water, but the most common cause of persistent bubbles is Phosphate. Most fish foods contain them and if you are overfeeding and not doing a good job of siphoning the gravel when doing weekly water changes you will get persistent bubbles. Before doing a massive water change, you must compare the pH of the tank to the pH of your treated replacement water. If the tank has a lowered pH a massive water change will increase the toxicity of the Nitrites and ammonia in the tank, and possibly kill some fish. If the tank pH is low begin with a 10% water change, then another in 24 hours, then check the pH,if it is not the same as the replacement water continue with 10% changes daily, until it is. Then start a program of weekly 25% changes, keep the gravel well vacuumed and quit feeding so darn much. When you clean the cleanable filter parts use water that you have removed from the tank. This is to preserve a healthy bacteria colony. Get a good gravel cleaning appliance, there are any number of good ones available. If you intend to have more tanks in the future the Python brand is a good one,but it's too expensive for just one tank. The others are just as effective only not as convenient, requiring the use of a bucket. I hope this is some help.---Good luck.---PeeTee

Could you tell me what type of filter you have? Is it an in tank filter or a regular one. I recommend whisperer filter systems. You may have too much of a filter that creates alot of air bubbles usually in tanks which I have one for a 10 gallon does the same as what you mention but if I remove about an inch of water it goes away maybe try that see if it works.

You may have a pin-hole leak in the intake tube that is drawing air into the system. Also, depending on the filter type, check your rubber o-seals, lubricate them with food-grade lubrication.

If the surface bubbles are not "bursting" you may consider doing a massive water change (very gently so as not to stress the fish) so that you can get some of the dissolved organics out of the tank.

Hope this helps

Try filling the the tank with more water. So when the water comes out it is level with the water in the tank. This makes any tank look 10 times better, and clearer. Just fill the water level up higher.

sounds as if you have just started this set-up. the water needs to be cycled with bacteria, so that the water will be established Eco-system.

an established system (filter and water) converts ammonia and ammonium into nitrites and then into nitrates. Bacteria help convert nitrites to nitrates, It takes weeks naturally for bacteria to grow enough to change the water to a suitable environment. just buy Cycled bacteria in a bottle at a fish store. then do a 1/5 water change. and the bubbles and cloudiness will go away.

Sounds like a fungus has grown. Go to walmart and buy an anti fungus liquid for tanks. You can ask the attendant working there for help. Good luck
