2) x + 4 – 8x – 1 > 3(x – 2)
- 7x + 3 > 3x - 6 {combine like terms on left, distribute the 3 on the right}
- 10x > - 9 {subtract 3x, subtract 3}
x > 9/10 {divide by - 10}
Note that if you divide or multiply an inequality by a negative number, the orientation of the inequality changes.
3 < 5 is true
-3 < -5 is no longer true, but
-3 > -5 is true
3. Name the coordinate described here: From the origin, the point is three places to the right and eight places down.
(3, -8)
4. Find the midpoint between these points:
(-2, 7) and (-8, -5)
Midpoint is [(x1 + x2)/2, (y1 + y2)/2]
[(-2-8)/2, (7-5)/2]
(-10/2, 2/2)
(-5, 1)
5. Fill in the chart given this linear equation:
y = 5x – 4
Replace x with the given x value and calculate the corresponding value of y
If x = -2, y = 5(-2) - 4 = -10-4 = -14
6. The linear equation y = 6x – 5 graphs as a horizontal/vertical/diagonal line (choose the correct label and type it below)
A horizontal line is y = number, a vertical line is x = number. This line has a slope that is neither horizontal or vertical. tha slope is actually 6 - if x increases by 1, y increases by 6

2. x + 4 - 8x - 1 > 3(x - 2)
-7x + 3 > 3x - 6
-10x > -9
x < 9 / 10
(Remember that when you multiply or divide both sides of an inequality by a negative number, you must reverse the direction of the inequality)
3. (3, -8)
4. The midpoint is the average:
((-2 + -8) / 2, (7 + -5) / 2) =
(-10 / 2, 2 / 2) =
(-5, 1)
5. Plug in each of the values for x into the equation to find the corresponding value of y, e.g. for x = -7, y = 5x - 4 = 5(-7) - 4 = -35 - 4 = -39
x y
-2 -14
-1 -9
0 -4
1 1
2 6
6. Diagonal. A horizontal line has an equation of the form y = (some constant), whereas a vertical line has an equation of the form x = (some constant). Any other equation represents a diagonal line.

2. Solve for x. Collect xs on the LEFT side. The solution should be presented with x first, the correct inequality symbol, then the number.
x + 4 – 8x – 1 > 3(x – 2)
-7x+3>3x-6
-10x>-9
x<9/10
3. Name the coordinate described here:
From the origin, the point is three places to the right and eight places down.(3,-8)
4. Find the midpoint between these points:
(-2, 7) and (-8, -5)
(-5,1)
5. Fill in the chart given this linear equation:
y = 5x – 4
**Type all your work below the chart.
xy
-2 -14
-1 -9
0 -4
1 1
2 6

2. x+4-8x -1 > 3(x-2)
3-7x > 3x-6
-10x > -9
10x < 9
x < 0.9
3. (3,-8)
4. (((-2 + (-8))/2), (7+(-5))/2) =
(-10/2, 2/2) =
(-5, 1)
5. @ x = -2, y = 5(-2)-4 = -14
@ x = -1, y = 5(-1)-4 = -9
@ x = 0 , y = 5(0) -4 = -4
@ x = 1 , y = 5(1) -4 - 1
@ x = 2, y = 5(2) -4 = 6
6. diagonal line because slope = 6 (for horizontal line, slope = 0; for vertical line, slope = infinity or no reference to y)

2. -7x + 3> 3x-6
-10x> -9 the multiply by -.1
x> .9
3. (3,-8)
4. (-2 + -8)/2 = -5
(7+ -5)/2 = 1
(-5,1) is the answer
5. I can't tell if you are saying those are the values for x if so:
X = -2 y=-14
x=-1 y= -9 5 (-1) - 4 = -5-4=-9
x=0 y= -4 (5x0)-4
x=1 y=1 (5x1)-4= 5-4=1
x=2 y=6 (5x2) -4=10-4 =6
6. diagonal plot (0,-5) and (5/6,0) and that's the line.

(-5, 1)
5) don't get what you're asking in this question.
6) diagonal...if you plot a few points you can draw the graph & see.
Hope you & your daughter actually understand & don't just accept what I've written as correct!
