Only if they consume a VERY significant amout of space & thus hinder effective defragmentation of the hard drive.

Otherwise, removing document files will make no difference in speed WHATSOEVER.

The above person is right; However, if you're extremely low on space (2gb or so), then your computer will slow down considerably. Another benefit of moving the files to a flash drive is that your searches for files won't take so long. =)

Also, defragmenting your hard drive might not be such a bad idea. Just let it run overnight (Go to my computer, right click on C Drive, properties, and on one of the tabs it says something about Defragment. Defragmenting is equivalent to sorting out papers in a cluttered office. The more things on your computer, the more cluttered it is, and the slower your computer goes because it has to sort through all the junk.

Yes, but there are better ways of speeding up your computer, in my opinion. If you have a decent hard drive (like 20 gigs +), then unless it's crammed full of documents, it should be okay. A good way to speed up your computer is to use disk defragmentation. Fragmented files slow down the flow of information in your computer, and defragmenter is very useful in helping decrease fragmentation. Another and more obvious way is just to delete things you don't need, especially internet files.
