Our current kitchen tile grout is coming out little by little (it wasn't sealed). It's down to about half thickness. Can I just prep it and add new grout or do I need to remove all the existing grout? And if I don't need to remov it, how should I prep it? Should it be a bit moist to adhere better to the new grout?

You need to remove the old grout. Get a grout knife, it has a carbide edge to cut/scrape the old grout out. Get it a clean as possible before you re-grout.

I would scrape as much out as you can. You can get a grout removal tool from Home Depot or... Apply the new grout over the old and yes, pre-moistening will help with adhesion... not too wet though, let the water soak into the remaining old grout then apply new. Finish as normal.

I would not suggest to grout over existing grout.... it will not adhere properly and then it chip away and look like crap. I suggest to scrape out the old grout... I always used a screw driver and a hammer. Get a wet/dry vac and vacuum all the crap up. Mix your grout with the sealer in it and re-grout it.

You can put new grout over old but that is not recommended. You should actually take out all the old grout and redo with new grout.

If you put new over old, it might have a tendency to separate or split apart.
